Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake have a well-known history. The pop queen and the *NSYNC frontman dated from 1999 to 2002. They had an intense relationship Spears later recounted in her memoir. Timberlake was arrested for DWI charges on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. And Spears may have thrown shade in his direction with an Instagram post.

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were the music industry’s “it” couple in the early 2000s, but they didn’t last. The couple reportedly had an intense relationship, with both discussing the incredible heartbreak they experienced after the romance ended. Ultimately, Spears and Timberlake broke up due to their conflicting schedules.
So, are Spears and Timberlake on good terms in 2024? It seems likely that they are not. In her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, Spears discussed details of the relationship that put Timberlake in a negative light. She alleged that Timberlake cheated on her multiple times during their relationship, which reminded fans of when Timberlake was holding hands with his co-star, Alisha Wainwright, in 2019 despite his marriage to Jessica Biel.
Shortly after midnight on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, police arrested Timberlake for blowing through a stop sign and swerving in his car after drinking at the American Hotel in New York. Timberlake refused a breathalyzer test and failed the field sobriety tests. He was booked for DWI-related charges and has to make future court appearances.
Spears didn’t directly comment on the news of Timberlake. But she posted two photos to Instagram hours after the news broke — one of a cocktail and the other of her legs in a pool. “It’s the little things you know!!!” she captioned the post with two rose emojis. It’s unclear if she meant to make the post to throw shade, but the timing indicates a correlation.

Britney Spears made several scathing claims against Justin Timberlake in her 2023 memoir. In addition to the cheating claims, Spears said Timberlake broke up with her after several years of dating via text. He also allegedly encouraged her to get an abortion after she became pregnant — a choice she would not have otherwise made.
The 2021 New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears also suggested Timberlake used his music as a weapon against Spears. He also talked about their sexual relationship long after the romance ended.
In early January 2024, Timberlake seemed to address the claims during a New York City concert. Before singing “Cry Me a River,” he announced, “I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize to absolutely f***ing nobody.”
Spears publicly apologized for some of what was said in her memoir but took back the apology after Timberlake’s concert announcement. “Someone told me someone was talking s*** about me on the streets !!! Do you want to bring it to the court or will you go home crying to your mom like you did last time ??? I’m not sorry !!!” she wrote on Instagram after the incident.
