Justin Timberlake’s music tours have been a topic of conversation between himself and wife Jessica Biel. Earlier in their relationship, Biel tried to stay close to Timberlake by accompanying the singer during his global performances. But Timberlake quickly felt that wasn’t such a good idea.

Biel recently admitted that Timberlake’s touring was one of the most challenging aspects of their relationship. Speaking on The View (via People) recently, Biel confided how she and Timberlake managed to maintain contact while Timberlake traveled the world.

“Thank goodness for Zoom and FaceTime. For traveling families — well, for everybody, really — but for parents who are gone a lot, that’s been really helpful,” Biel said.

Biel emphasized the importance of keeping in touch while he was away, which was still difficult after being married for more than a decade.

“It’s always a work in progress,” she said. “It’s constantly trying to find the balance, trying to find the time when we can connect.”

The issue of touring was brought up before Biel and the singer even officially announced they were dating. Years ago, Biel was adamant about being with Timberlake while he was on the road. Timberlake reluctantly agreed to bring Biel with him despite having a bad feeling about it beforehand.

“She truly insisted that she came with me on tour. I don’t know how to say no to a pretty face. But it wasn’t really a good idea. This time I’m putting the machine before everything else,” Timberlake once said according to Femalefirst. “Jessica met up with me in Manchester, England, but for Paris I told her categorically no. This tour is very important to me. I’m doing it really seriously so there’s no question of playing sweethearts.”

It’d be easy for Timberlake and Biel to settle down on most nights. Especially when the pair have two sons to look after nowadays. But Biel shared that having a night out like they did in their younger years was an important aspect of their marriage.

“You just have to make time for date night, time for yourself alone and time with your partner,” Biel said in a 2018 interview with E! News. “It has to be fun!”

“My husband always says, ‘We can’t stop dating.’ I love that because it’s true,” she added. “You have to continue to make the space for yourself and your partner to just have fun like you did before you had kids. And not talk about them! Keep it fresh, keep it exciting. Spontaneous if at all possible.”

Although when it came to their home life, Biel asserted that their family was a lot less crazier than they were in the beginning.

“We’re not too crazed anymore,” she said. “We were crazy in the beginning and didn’t know what we were doing, and terrified and exhausted.”

A tour also had a hand in bringing Timberlake and Biel together. The two officially ran into each other during a party. Timberlake and Biel exchanged a few words, with the Blade Trinity star leaving an immediate impression on the singer. But Timberlake still wasn’t sure if Biel was interested in him, or if he was looking too deep into their conversation. He recalled this first meeting in his memoir Hindsight & All The Things I Can’t See In Front Of Me.

“We were at a speakeasy kind of a bar, a private club, and we were standing around in a group of people,” Timberlake said. “I made some sort of sarcastic comment, really dry. Nobody got it except her. She laughed, and I noticed, all of a sudden, and in the way where you wonder if a person’s like you, if they have a very dry, dark sense of humor, too. We talked that night. The DJ played Lucky Star, and we danced. And then she was gone.”

But Timberlake discovered there was an actual connection between them the second time they were together.

“My friend then brought her to [my Future Sex/LoveSounds] show. They were with a whole crew of girls, and they all came into the dressing room and hung out,” Timberlake wrote. “After the show, they were all going back to L.A. and I was going on to Anaheim. I asked them if they wanted to come with me. ‘I’ll give you a ride, you can come on my bus. If you want.’ And they did. Jess and I talked the whole way up, joking around. Before she got off the tour bus, I said, ‘Can I have your number?'”

Timberlake mentioned that they were both in unsteady relationships at the time. But after a while, they were able to admit their feelings to one another. It wasn’t long before Timberlake suggested that they should officially become a couple.

“When I came back from tour, we spent a month together. After that, I said, ‘I really want to be exclusive.’ And, somehow, she said, ‘So do I,’” he said.
