Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared their thoughts on racism and bias

Prince Harry and Meghan joined leaders from the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust to talk about racial injustice during a 20-minute chat on July 1. Harry is the president of the organization, and Meghan serves as the vice president.

“We can’t deny or ignore the fact that all of us have been brought up and educated to see the world differently,” Prince Harry noted during the call. “However, once you start to realize that there is that bias there, then you need to acknowledge it. You need to do the work to become more aware.”

“It’s not even in the big moments; it’s in the quiet moments where racism and unconscious bias lies and hides and thrives,” Meghan explained. “It’s those nuances that make it confusing for a lot of people to understand the role that they play in that — either passively and actively.”

Harry and Meghan’s body language spoke volumes

Because the Sussexes don’t make regular appearances now that they’ve stepped away from royal life, this video chat gave the opportunity to look at their body language as a window into how they’re doing. Body language expert Blanca Cobb shared her thoughts on the couple with Daily Mail (via Daily Star) and claimed things are “solid” between the two.

“Harry and Meghan are a solid couple,” Cobb said. “Their physical positions in the video are significant because it gives a sense of the dynamics in their relationship. Meghan is dead center with Harry off to her right, which showcases Meghan as the center of his world.”

Cobb further explained how the couple’s position indicates Harry’s support of Meghan, and their occasional touching of shoulders shows a physical and emotional connection.

“Sitting slightly behind her with her right shoulder in front of his left, symbolically shows that he’s got her. That he supports her. That she can count on him,” Cobb pointed out.

Cobb also detected the “appreciation and respect” they show one another when the other person is speaking.

Even Meghan’s hairstyle reveals something about the couple, according to Cobb. “Meghan’s hair is pushed over onto her left side exposing her neck to her husband,” she said. “A woman shows this vulnerability to a man she loves and trusts.”

Harry was ‘slightly uncomfortable’ on the call, body language expert says

Despite Cobb’s analysis claiming that the couple has a solid connection and respect for one another, she did note that Prince Harry wasn’t entirely comfortable during the video chat.

“I think that Harry looks slightly uncomfortable in parts of the video because of the subject matter,” Cobb noted, pointing to the way Harry “tightens his lips, which indicates his dislike and irritation about people not taking action.”

Even though the conversation isn’t completely comfortable, Cobb pointed out how Harry shows a “calm confidence.”

“With his head held high, strong voice and hand movements, Harry shows a calm confidence and authority when he spoke about acknowledging the past, righting the wrongs, people feeling uncomfortable, hope, and optimism,” Cobb explained.
