For much of Taylor Swift’s career, she was hesitant to touch on the subject of politics. However, the singer has changed her tune in the past few years and is now a well-known Democrat voter.

On May 29, she also decided to stand up to President Donald Trump on Twitter amid the recent protests against police brutality. It was a bold decision, to say the least, and a source revealed Swift wanted to “express her morals and values.”

Taylor Swift called out Donald Trump for ‘stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism’

Protests against police brutality have been breaking out across America following the death of an unarmed black man named George Floyd. In response to the protests, Trump made a controversial tweet that compared protesters to “thugs” and promoted violence against them. It has since been flagged by Twitter for “glorifying violence.”

Instead of sitting back, Swift decided to post a response to Trump, writing: “After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November. @realdonaldtrump.”

Swift’s tweet clearly spoke to many people on the internet. According to reports, it reached 1 million likes in less than five hours and has since become her most liked tweet to date.

Source says Taylor Swift ‘felt it was necessary’ to speak out against Donald Trump

Although there are celebrities who choose to not discuss politics for fear of dividing their fan base, Swift is not one of them. A source told Us Weekly she “felt it was necessary” to condemn Trump.

“Taylor felt it was necessary to speak up against Trump and express her morals and values,” the insider explained. “She realizes how powerful her voice is and wanted to use it for the greater good. She wanted to speak out against inequalities in the world and support minorities, while also showing how anti-Trump she is.”

Fans are not the only people who are standing with Swift. Numerous celebrities have shown their support for her tweet as well.

Actresses Debra Messing and Alyssa Milano both praised Swift for using her platform to speak out against injustice.

Meanwhile, Victoria’s Secret model and Swift’s friend, Martha Hunt, also responded positively to Swift. She wrote: “This! Trump has continued to encourage an environment for radicalized racism as a white supremacist… What did he expect? How much brazen racism can people take peacefully? He wants a race war and asked for killings last night.”

Additionally, there were many celebrities who condemned Trump’s message without responding directly to Swift. For example, Steven King, Liz Phair, Ice T, Mia Farrow, and Mandy Moore were among the famous faces who spoke out. Some of them, like Swift, also encouraged fans to vote in the November 2020 election in hopes of removing the president from office.
