1 Elvis Presley Fan Got in a Catfight With Priscilla Presley
Being married to Elvis Presley had its perks, however, Priscilla Presley didn’t always have an easy time dealing with her husband’s fans. She once got in a catfight with one of them. Here’s how Elvis reacted to the incident.
How Elvis Presley’s fans reacted to Priscilla Presley
According to the HuffPost, Priscilla stated her marriage to Elvis was not always easy. “Living the life of rock ‘n’ roll is not the life that is conducive to marriage, family and staying at home,” she revealed. Furthermore, she endured lots of public criticism.
In her book, Elvis and Me, Priscilla also discussed the difficulties she and Elvis faced surrounding privacy. As their life unfolded, it became impossible for them to do anything without a swarm of fans or the media surrounding them.
How fans had a ‘field day’ taking pictures of Elvis and Priscilla Presley
During the filming of Elvis’ movie, Clambake, the lease on the home Elvis and Priscilla were living in expired and they decided to look for a new house. Being able to maintain a semblance of privacy became a priority. They found “a secluded home nestled against a hill, in Bel Air.” Priscilla wrote “we thought we’d found sanctuary at last.”
Unfortunately, that did not prove to be the case. Priscilla described a situation where “hundreds of people began collecting on the mountain road directly about us and observing the view below through binoculars and telephoto lenses.” She and Elvis could no longer use the pool, patio, or driveway without being watched by fans or the media. There was a “field day” going on to capture “candid photos and scoops.”
Why Priscilla Presley got into a catfight
One night, when Priscilla was out driving to visit someone, she noticed a car tailgating her. She realized it was “one of Elvis’ most ardent fans.” Because she did not feel safe, Priscilla turned her car around and headed back home. But this woman, who had another girl and guy in the car with he,r continued to follow Priscilla. She said, “She followed close all the way and by the time I drove through the gates, I was furious.” The car then drove up to the dead end past the Presley home.
Priscilla followed the fan and then parked her car broadside to block her. The woman was standing beside her car and Priscilla approached her. Priscilla asked the fan why she was following her. The fan responded with “You whore.” Priscilla relayed, “Incensed, I clenched my fist and swung an uppercut, hitting her in the face. She landed on the ground, spread-eagled and stunned. I landed on her and the two of us yelled, screamed, and pulled hair until I realized I needed help.”
How Elvis Presley reacted to the catfight
Priscilla ran back to the house and yelled for help using the front gate intercom. Quickly, Elvis came out with guys close behind. He went charging toward the fan and her crew. At this point, they locked themselves in the car. “Elvis was livid, lifting the car on its springs, bouncing it from side to side. He pounded the windshield, threatening to kill them if he ever got his hands on them or if they ever laid their hands on me.” The fan yelled she was underage and would sue if she was touched. Elvis had to be convinced by one of the guys to let the fan finally drive away. So the Bel Air home didn’t provide the sanctuary the couple had very much desired and ended up being the site of Priscilla’s catfight.
