The 1 Reason the Royals Ignored the Latest Prince Harry and Meghan Drama
The royal family’s motto has always been “never complain, never explain.” But after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down and moved to America, they began making accusations and airing out the family’s dirty laundry and some of what they said got a response from senior royals.
Prince William spoke out after he was questioned about the “racist family” claims and the late Queen Elizabeth stated the recollections with the Sussexes may vary in her public statement following the couple’s Oprah Winfrey interview.
The royals also defended themselves when they tried to prove Meghan and Harry wrong through their actions. Like when the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) decided to combat her sister-in-law’s claims that she wasn’t “a hugger” by hugging several people during her engagements and walkabouts.
But the family has been able to avoid and ignore the Sussexes’ latest drama for one reason.
Why the royals completely ignored the Sussexes’ latest drama
The latest drama surrounding the Sussexes has to do with the release of a German documentary titled The Lost Prince. The program was directed by veteran royal reporter Ulrike Grunewald and it examines the duke’s journey within the royal family, his departure, and his current life in California with his wife.
Some of the pair’s Montecito neighbors featured in the documentary didn’t have the nicest things to say about the couple as one local resident put it, “Meghan isn’t an asset to our community.”
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told OK! that the Palace isn’t interested in the show or what’s revealed in it saying: “I don’t think anyone at the Palace will be very interested in the German documentary.”
She explained that the reason they’d rather just ignore it is because they have had more important things to concern themselves with.
“The king and William and Catherine all have far too much on their minds to worry about another probe into Harry and Meghan‘s life,” Bond said referring to the challenging year with the monarch and princess’s cancer diagnoses.
Prince Harry and Meghan highlight the work they did in 2024 to compete with the royals
Part of Prince Harry and Meghan’s playbook over the last few years has been to make sure their news or announcements coincide with any news or important engagements the royals have. In an effort to drown out some of the press after The Lost Prince aired and to outshine Kate the same day she had engagements with the Qatari royals, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose to release a video detailing their philanthropic efforts throughout the year.
“It is quite extraordinary that they chose to make news and release this video together with the Archewell Foundation’s accounts,” royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said (per Express). “They are, after all, still members of the royal family, even though they caused the rift in it.
“At present, given that the king and Catherine are recovering from cancer, they cannot be critical. However, the timing of [the video]’s release sends a message which is far from friendly.”
