Money problems led to Tammy and Amy eating unhealthy

Amy and Tammy have struggled with money their whole lives. Their financial situation led to them having poor eating habits as children. In 2019, the sisters told People that their grandmother and father died when they were young, which caused their mother to work a number of jobs and leave the sisters at home to fend for themselves. This led them to eat a lot of microwave meals and fast food. When they would grocery shop on their own, they always bought whatever was cheapest in the store.

‘1000-lb Sisters’ fans wonder how Tammy and Amy afford so much food

Tammy has had a major problem with overeating. At one point, she gained 50 pounds in a month, which took an excessive amount of food to achieve. So, fans have been wondering where all the money for the food has been coming from.

“From the surgeries to the new houses and food being delivered to driving here and there, it makes me wonder ya know?” one fan asked on Reddit. “How do they afford it all costs, they always mention being dirt poor.”

“I mean it’s probably part of why they’re poor,” one fan said of all of the food they purchase. “Tammy grifts online. They have YouTube. Amy does Cameo as well.”

“Didn’t Amy say she’s on disability in the first episode?” one person added.

“They have a pretty good bag from what I can see,” one person commented. “They make money on YouTube, grifts, and as mentioned already, the TLC money was probably life changing for them. I highly doubt they are socking away cash for retirement, or even savings, so they can just spend frivolously for now.”

“Government assistance, social security and disability (which I’m positive Tammy is on), food stamps, money from the tv show, money from their YouTube channel (in season 1 Amy said doing YouTube videos was her and Tammy’s job), and I thought at one point Amy and Michael were being paid by Medicaid to caregive for Tammy,” another person said.

Tammy hired a personal trainer on ‘1000-lb Sisters’

Tammy’s weight loss journey hasn’t been cheap. At one point, Tammy and their brother, Chris Combs, hired a personal trainer. The sisters also got on a meal plan and bought several ready-made healthy meals. Unfortunately, Tammy ate weeks’ worth of the food in a few days.

The money from TLC could be footing the bill for some of these health measures, but the sisters also make money from their individual Cameos and have been YouTubing for years.
