1000-lb Sisters follows Tammy and Amy Slaton as the two try to lose weight and get healthy. Over the course of the TLC show, Amy lost enough weight to qualify for weight loss surgery while Tammy actually gained weight. Though Tammy’s lack of exercise and eating habits are definitely contributors to her lack of progress, some fans think Tammy’s doctor might also be part of the problem.

Fans think Tammy Slaton’s doctor might be the reason she hasn’t lost weight

The discussion surrounding Dr. Proctor’s effectiveness started when a fan posted to Reddit asking others if Proctor’s goals for Tammy were too conservative.

“She wouldn’t need to do any movement to lose weight,” one fan wrote. “At that size if she changed her diet or didn’t have people giving her food constantly, she would lose weight.”

“Doesn’t matter that she can’t move around,” another person commented. “If she cut her calories by a little bit she’d easily lose 10 lbs a month. When you’re that size it takes an astronomical amount of calories to just maintain your size.”

Some people compared Dr. Proctor to Dr. Now of My 600 lb Life, who takes a more direct approach in delivering news to patients.

“I have no doubt he’s good at what he does,” one person commented. “I just feel like he kind of coddles too much. Maybe I’m just used to Dr. Now (My 600-lb Life) and his blunt ways. Maybe 10 lbs a month for people who don’t need to lose much is unhealthy (don’t know that for sure) but for someone as big as Tammy, it’s not unhealthy. I’ve seen people follow a strict 1200 calorie a day diet and lose over 100 lbs in 2 months (again, 600 lb Life). It’s all doctor supervised and recommended.”

Some fans thought that Dr. Proctor’s method was the best for Tammy.

“His style is so different from Dr. Now. Honestly, like honestly-honestly – Tammy is a lost cause and he’s doing her a kindness to keep checking in with her,” another person added. “If she saw Dr. Now, she just wouldn’t be his patient anymore. No harm in cheering on her tiny victories.”

Tammy’s doctor wasn’t upset when she gained weight

At the end of season 2 of 1000-lb Sisters, Tammy actually gained weight, bringing her to over 660 lbs. Most doctors would be angry at the lack of progress, but Tammy’s doctor was actually OK with the weight gain.

“You could’ve blamed [that] you couldn’t get out of bed, you could’ve blamed that you had COVID and you could’ve blamed that you were in the hospital, and you didn’t,” he said. “And believe it or not, that’s a step forward from where you’ve been in the past. So you just made progress even though your weight went up.”

Tammy Slaton may have to take drastic measures in 1000-lb Sisters Season 3

1000-lb Sisters Season 3 is around the corner. This season, Tammy reportedly takes drastic measures and checks herself into a rehab facility to deal with her food addiction. However, according to season 3’s synopsis, she may not stay in the rehab long enough to make a change.
