‘1000-Lb Sisters’: Fans Worry Tammy Slaton’s Health Is Declining After Troubling Instagram Post
Fans have been rooting for TLC star Tammy Slaton to reach her weight loss goals since season 1 of 1000-lb Sisters. However, Tammy hasn’t always been the biggest advocate for her own health. Last year, she contracted coronavirus (COVID-19) and had to be put on oxygen. Since then, Tammy has been on and off oxygen and now fans are growing concerned.
Tammy Slaton’s breathing issues
In Nov., Tammy told fans that she had contracted COVID-19 and pneumonia.
“I was in the hospital just about two weeks,” she said in a video update on YouTube. “I’m doing great. I mean yes, I’m on oxygen. That’s just to keep my lungs sturdy, strength — I won’t be on [oxygen] much longer. I was on 15 liters of oxygen and now I’m on three.”
However, due to Tammy’s food addiction, some fans thought she may have been in the hospital for a different reason. She addressed those rumors in a video in Dec.
“[Some of] the comments are stupid,” she said. “There’s people saying I wasn’t in the hospital for COVID. Don’t always believe everything you read on the internet. It blows my mind that everybody thinks so bad of me.”
Fans worry Tammy’s health is declining
Since then, Tammy has been wearing oxygen tubes occasionally. But recently, she posted a picture of herself vaping while using a breathing machine. Fans were immediately concerned.
“Girl you know you ain’t supposed to be smoking,” one person commented.
“Vaping with oxygen??” another person asked. “Totally don’t feel sorry for you.”
“As a future respiratory therapist, I am shocked that you’d be vaping or smoking at all while you’re on oxygen!” another fan wrote. “That is EXTREMELY dangerous! I am just concerned about you doll, not judging you, but as a healthcare professional, I had to say something. Please take care of yourself, you’re more than worth it honey.”
“Hoping and praying that you find a way to stop smoking while you are on oxygen, a lot of us are very worried about you!” one person added.
Some fans weren’t as kind.
“Is this girl vaping??” one fan commented. “Now I’m convinced she just wants attention because that’s just stupid.”
Tammy Slaton is checking into rehab
Fans are going to be able to keep up with Tammy’s health much more easily once 1000-lb Sisters Season 3 premieres. This season, Tammy reportedly checks herself into rehab.
“With her weight spiraling, Tammy makes the game-changing decision to check herself into rehab for food addiction, but her stay there may be short-lived as she considers the best way to reach her goals. She also appears to be talking to a new love interest, which is cause for concern for her family, as relationships have hindered Tammy’s progress in the past,” the season’s synopsis reads.
She and her brother, Chris Combs, are both still working toward weight loss surgery, while their sister Amy Slaton has already had the procedure.
“Meanwhile, the sisters’ brother Chris had reached the goal Dr. Smith set for him to be eligible for bariatric surgery but after a setback following a procedure to remove a boil from his leg, he fears he has blown his chances for life-saving surgery. Facing another check-up with their doctor, Tammy and Chris must both face the music and see whether their progress qualifies them for weight-loss surgery. “
