‘1000-Lb Sisters’: How Many Siblings Do Amy and Tammy Slaton Have?
Amy and Tammy Slaton are the stars of 1000-lb Sisters. The relationship between the sisters was what attracted producers to them and landed them the TLC show. But Amy and Tammy aren’t the only ones in the Slaton family. How many siblings do Amy and Tammy have?
How many siblings do Tammy and Amy have?
Chris Combs is probably Amy and Tammy’s most well-known sibling as he appears on the show with them. He and Tammy have been dieting together in order to get weight loss surgery. Chris is also the one who calls Tammy out the most for failing to stick to her diet. Though other siblings are not really talked about or shown on the show, Tammy and Amy’s mother Darlene revealed in season 1 that she raised five kids. Chris has also talked about growing up with Amy, Tammy, and their brother, Steven Slaton.
In the brief moments that Tammy and Amy’s other siblings have been shown, fans have noticed differences between them.
“Having recently watched the series again I’ve noticed that Chris and the other sister seem to be fairly intelligent and well-spoken and seem very different from the two sisters,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “I know Amy is registered blind but these two sisters seem extremely different not only looks wise but intelligence and personality-wise. I don’t know if it’s ever been addressed if they all have different fathers or something as the older siblings seem very different.”
Tammy and Amy have not addressed whether they share the same parents with all of their siblings.
Tammy and Amy’s relationship with their mom
In Season 1, fans got to meet Amy and Tammy’s mom when the two went out for dinner with her. The dinner was Tammy’s first time out of the house in six years and instead of being supportive, Darlene was very judgemental.
“I know when we came in, Tammy was having a hard time,” Amy said. “But it would have been nice for our mom to say, ‘Are you OK? Do you need anything?’ But really she was just sitting there being nonchalant about the whole ordeal.”
Tammy explained that she and Amy didn’t have a close relationship with their mom growing up.
“Growing up we didn’t get very much attention, we didn’t get very many hugs,” Tammy told the cameras.
“I’m not saying our mom didn’t care, I’m just saying she didn’t know how to show it. I’m thinking that her family didn’t know how to show it,” Amy added.
Things got worse when Tammy told her mom she planned to get weight loss surgery.
“I don’t think you will make it, I think you’re going to chicken out,” Darlene said. “You don’t have the willpower.
“Tammy gives up a lot. If she sees that she doesn’t think she’s gonna make it she just gives up. She don’t take after me, I’m a fighter, I’ve raised five kids. So that’s kind of her fault,” Darlene said.
Chris and Tammy in ‘1000-lb Sisters’ Season 3
This season, it seems like siblings Tammy and Chris will have to rely on each other to reach their weight-loss goals.
“The sisters’ brother Chris had reached the goal Dr. Smith set for him to be eligible for bariatric surgery but after a setback following a procedure to remove a boil from his leg, he fears he has blown his chances for life-saving surgery,” this season’s synopsis reads. “Facing another check-up with their doctor, Tammy and Chris must both face the music and see whether their progress qualifies them for weight-loss surgery.”
1000-lb Sisters Season 3 premieres Nov. 15.
