‘1000-lb Sisters’ Star Tammy Slaton Was ‘Really Upset’ With Husband Caleb for Dying
Tammy Slaton wasn’t ready to say goodbye to her husband Caleb Willingham.
Tammy returns to TV on Oct. 8 in a new season of TLC’s 1000-lb Sisters. In the season premiere, she opens up about Caleb’s sudden death in 2023, revealing that she had a hard time processing becoming a widow.
Tammy Slaton ‘had all kinds of questions’ after Caleb Willingham’s death
Tammy and Caleb met while both were patients at an Ohio rehab center. They married in November 2022. But life for the newlyweds wasn’t easy. A few months after saying “I do,” Tammy went home to Kentucky. But Caleb was not ready to be discharged.
Being apart put strain on the couple’s marriage, as did Caleb’s health issues. They reportedly split sometime in the spring of 2023. He died on June 30, 2023.
Despite their problems, Caleb’s death was a major blow for Tammy.
“When Caleb first passed away, I had all kinds of questions,” Tammy says in a clip from the 1000-lb Sisters Season 6 premiere (via People). “I had all kinds of things I wanted to say. I didn’t hate him, but I was really upset with him for dying on me and leaving me a widow. And now I’m like, I can’t be mad at him. It’s not his fault.”
“Right now, I want to thank him for what time we did have together and how great it was,” she says.
In an Instagram tribute to Caleb posted shortly after Caleb’s death, Tammy referred to him as her “sweet angel.”
“You will be forever missed and loved so much,” she wrote. “Thank you Caleb for showing me real love and happiness.”
The ‘1000-lb Sisters’ tries to connect with her late husband
Even though he’s gone, Tammy still has things she’d like to say to Caleb. So, she’s decided to use an app that claims to help people communicate with ghosts and spirits.
“Tammy has an app that’s kind of like a radio. And when a ghost communicates, it takes all the static and makes it into words that you can understand,” Tammy’s sister Amy Slaton explains. “Some of it’s white noise like static, some of it’s actual names, so you never know what you’re going to get.”
Tammy and Amy sit down to listen to the transmissions from the app. Mostly, it’s just noise. Then, Tammy jumps. She thinks she might have heard her name. Could it really be Caleb trying to send her a message from the beyond? She’s not sure.
“I have to be careful because I don’t want any evil spirits in my house,” she says.
The new season of 1000-lb Sisters premieres Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. ET on TLC. Episodes stream the next day on Max.
