Tammy Slaton still deals with COVID issues

Tammy’s most recent health battle occurred last year when she contracted COVID-19 and had to go to the hospital.

“I was in the hospital for just about two weeks. …  I’m doing great. I mean yes, I’m on oxygen,” she updated fans in a video. “That’s just to keep my lungs sturdy, strength — I won’t be on oxygen much longer. I was on 15 liters of oxygen and now I’m on three.”

At the time, some fans wondered if Tammy was actually in the hospital for another reason but she cleared up those rumors.

“[Some of] the comments are stupid,” she said. “There’s people saying I wasn’t in the hospital for COVID. Don’t always believe everything you read on the internet. It blows my mind that everybody thinks so bad of me.”

Since then, Tammy has still dealt with lingering problems from the virus. She still occasionally has to utilize oxygen tubes in order to breathe.

Tammy’s other issues

COVID-19 wasn’t the only issue that Tammy suffered from. According to SoapDirt, Tammy had a blood clot in her lungs in April. On the show, she also revealed that she has issues with her gall bladder, high blood pressure, and a thyroid issue.

In addition to her physical ailments, Tammy has also dealt with mental health challenges. Before the show began, Tammy hadn’t left the house outside of doctor’s appointments for years.

“I attempted to kill myself last January,” Tammy told People in 2019. But she was able to use her depression as motivation to make a change.

“I had a feeling that if I didn’t make changes now, I wasn’t going to live past 35,” she said.

Season 3 will deal with Tammy Slaton’s health

At the end of 1000-lb Sisters Season 2, Tammy had actually gained weight and was further away from her goals than ever. This season, Tammy decides to focus on her health.

“With her weight spiraling, Tammy makes the game-changing decision to check herself into rehab for food addiction, but her stay there may be short-lived as she considers the best way to reach her goals,” this season’s synopsis reads. “She also appears to be talking to a new love interest, which is cause for concern for her family, as relationships have hindered Tammy’s progress in the past.”
