Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel 1883 focuses on the early Dutton family traveling West with a group of immigrants. A large amount of the immigrants died before the group even left Texas. Ennis was shot and killed by a bandit and in episode 6 Shea Brennan searches for a replacement cowboy at a trading post. He hires a man named Colton to join the group. Here’s everything you need to know about the new character and the actor who plays him.

James Landry Hebert as Wade, Isabel May as Elsa, and Noah Le Gros as Colton. The trio stand next to each other in the brown grass.

Who is Colton in the ‘Yellowstone’ prequel?

Shea finds a new cowboy to work for him in 1883 Episode 6. Colton joins the group and immediately takes notice of Elsa Dutton. However, Elsa is still deep in the throes of grief and refuses to even tell Colton her name. Colton reveals that Ennis was a friend of his and tells Elsa he is sorry Ennis is gone.

Colton seems to realize just how much Ennis meant to Elsa, and he backs off a bit of his flirting. However, by the end of the episode, Elsa seems to be feeling better. She jokes with Colton in a much kinder tone that he shouldn’t bother flirting because he is “too pretty” for her.

Noah Le Gros plays Colton in ‘1883’

Noah Le Gros joined the cast of 1883 as the new cowboy Colton. 1883 isn’t Le Gros’ first acting role, but he might be hard to recognize in the long beard he has in the Yellowstone prequel.

Le Gros played Thor in Baz Luhrmann’s musical drama series The Get Down. The series follows a group of teenagers in the 1970s, during the rise of hip hop and disco. Thor is a graffiti artist who is a love interest of Jaden Smith’s character Dizzee.

Le Gros has appeared in films, including Depraved, A Score to Settle, and The Beach House. He is also set to play James McCallister in the upcoming film The Old Way, according to IMDb.

Fans already have opinions on Colton

Although Colton just arrived in 1883, fans already have plenty of thoughts about him. It seems possible that Colton could be another love interest for Elsa, but not all viewers are on board with that. A Reddit user speculated that he might turn out the be a “bad guy.”

“Perhaps he gets out of line with her [Elsa],” another fan suggested. “Could open up the possibility of Wade stepping in. Or honestly, Elsa at this point doesn’t need a man and maybe that will be the lesson. Maybe she’ll fall too quickly again and she’ll have to learn that not every man is saying sweet words with integrity.”

However, other fans see him as potentially a good match for Elsa. “I like the new character,” a Reddit user wrote. “He’s a cowboy that Wade knows, was friends with Ennis, and seems to be trustworthy. If there is a story there btwn Elsa and him it will be interesting because she is becoming a hardened cowgirl, and he might just be a better fit for her than Ennis was. Even though it pains me to say that.”
