‘1923’: Why the ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff, ‘1932,’ Got a Name Change
Taylor Sheridan fans are excited to see what’s in store well beyond Yellowstone. Paramount+’s 1883 proved to be a hit with fans, as it showed how the Dutton family settled where they did. Now, viewers are excited to learn more about the next spinoff, 1923. Initially, 1923 had the name 1932. So, what changed? Here’s what to know.
The ‘Yellowstone’ spinoff, originally named ‘1932,’ is now ‘1923’
Taylor Sheridan fans can’t get enough of the Yellowstone spinoffs. 1883, a limited series, was a huge success. Now, fans can look forward to 1923 — though they initially heard the spinoff called 1932.
According to TVLine, the spinoff had its title changed due to the time period of the show. The new Paramount+ series will “encompass the end of World War I and the start of prohibition.” World War I spanned from 1914 to 1918, and prohibition began in 1920 and ended in 1933. If the show kept its title of 1932, it likely would’ve focused solely on the end of prohibition and the start of the Great Depression, as the Great Depression began in 1929.
“Taylor Sheridan has put roots down for the Dutton Family tree that stands strong and tall, with many branches that continue to engage record-breaking audiences,” executive producer David C. Glasser stated in February when the new show was first announced. “It is awe-inspiring to work with Taylor, ViacomCBS, and the entire team on this universe.”
Who is part of the ‘1923’ cast?
Who’s joining the 1923 cast? TVLine reports the cast consists of Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren so far, and no other cast details have been given just yet.
Both Mirren and Ford have plenty of acting credentials, and it’s likely they’ll play another generation of Duttons in the new Yellowstone spinoff. Ford is known for playing Han Solo in the Star Wars films, as well as Indiana Jones. Indiana Jones 5 currently stands in post-production for a 2023 release, according to IMDb.
As for Mirren, she’s won Academy Awards, Golden Globes, Emmys, and Tonys for her acting. Queen Elizabeth II appointed Mirren a Dame thanks to the actor’s contributions to drama, Masterclass reports. Notable roles by Mirren include Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect, Queen Charlotte in The Madness of King George, and Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen (2006), just to name a few.
How many ‘Yellowstone’ spinoffs are there?
1923 is yet another series connected to the Yellowstone universe. So, how many Yellowstone spinoffs are there in total?
So far, it looks like three spinoffs exist in Taylor Sheridan’s universe. 1883, available for streaming on Paramount+, shows the Duttons setting off across the Great Plains in search of a place to settle. 1932 is likely the next chronologically, as it follows the Duttons in the next generation. The final spinoff is currently titled 6666, named after the 6666 Ranch.
Sheridan reportedly bought the 6666 Ranch and spoke on its significance. “The legacy of the 6666 Ranch and Miss Marion’s vision for the ranch are vital not only to the ranch itself, but the rich heritage of ranching in Texas,” he told the Texas Spur in 2021, according to Us Weekly. “This legacy is so important to me [that] I chose to highlight it in the upcoming season of Yellowstone and will continue to further the legacy and preserve its operations in a manner consistent with that great vision.”
