MTV Video Music Awards will have a live audience and honor the attacks on 9/11
In 2020, the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) had no choice but to go remote. But this year, the network is excited to welcome back a live audience, according to a press release from June 2021. MTV and the Barclays Center personnel are working closely with state and local officials to implement best coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic practices.
Plus, MTV will honor the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks at this year’s VMAs. Working with 9/11 Day, a nonprofit that recognizes Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance, MTV has orchestrated a series of service-oriented events during the week of the VMAs. The music network hopes their alliance with 9/11 Day will “encourage participation in various acts of charitable service across the country on Sept. 11 to honor the lives lost, their families, those injured, and those who rose in service in response to the attacks.”
Tune in to the 2021 Video Music Awards live on Sunday, Sept. 12 starting at 8 PM EST on MTV.
