After being postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and increased safety concerns, the Grammy Awards will officially take place on April 3, 2022. Stars from across the globe made their way to Las Vegas. Some hoped to take home trophies for their original music. 

That includes “Drivers License” artist Olivia Rodrigo. The songwriter earned seven nominations for the upcoming ceremony, as well as Jon Batiste, who is the artist with the most 2022 Grammy nominations. One of the most coveted awards of the night is Best Pop Solo Performance (not to be confused with Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, where artists like BTS and Lady Gaga/Tony Bennett are nominated.

Best Pop Solo Performance nominees for the 2022 Grammy Awards include “Anyone” by Justin Bieber, “Right On Time” by Brandi Carlile, “Happier Than Ever” by Billie Eilish, “Positions” by Ariana Grande, and “drivers license” by Rodrigo. Many of these artists will take to the Grammys’ stage, including Eilish and Rodrigo. 

Olivia Rodrigo could win the 2022 Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance 

“Drivers License” could potentially snag the Best Pop Solo Performance category. With her album Sour premiering in 2021, Rodrigo earned several other Grammy nominations. Since “Drivers License” debut, this track has earned over a billion streams on Spotify, making it one of the most popular Sour songs. 

The original earned the MTV Video Music Awards for Song of the Year and Push Performance of the Year. However, there’s pretty strong competition for Rodrigo, with some fans mentioning other Best Pop Solo nominees. 

“Wasn’t Billie the first person in a really long time to sweep the big four? Olivia is pretty culturally relevant right now, but I don’t see her sweeping. It’s a pretty rare occurrence,” one Reddit user said. Another Reddit user noted, “As long as this leaves room for Ariana to win Best Pop Solo Performance.”

Billie Eilish could potentially snag a Best Pop Solo Performance Grammy Award for ‘Happier Than Ever’

This artist recently received an Academy Award for her song “No Time to Die.” Eilish was also known for her historic Grammy wins at the 2020 ceremony. She snagged recognition in several categories for When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go, and its corresponding single “Bad Guy.”

With Happier Than Ever ushering in a new era for Eilish, the album’s title track proved to be a fan favorite. The song earned over 500 million Spotify plays, with some listeners creating TikTok videos inspired by the angsty original. If there was another song to dethrone “Drivers License,” “Happier Than Ever” is a safe bet.
