The Bachelorette debuted on television in 2003 and has been a staple in many Americans’ lives ever since. The show, a spinoff of the original series The Bachelor, revolves around a series of male contestants as they try to earn favor with the featured “bachelorette,” in hopes of finding true love.

While some critics have slammed the series for supposedly being superficial, viewers are invested in the show — and over the years, a few season finales have really stood out as proof positive that The Bachelorette is capable of drama on a truly epic scale.

Rachel Lindsay (season 13)

Season 13 of The Bachelorette was one of the franchise’s most shocking, not least because of the heart-pounding season finale. Peter Kraus, the man whom Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay felt the most drawn to, ended up breaking things off with her in the finale, telling Lindsay that “I think we are both going to regret this decision.” Although Rachel seemed truly devastated, she went on to choose Bryan Abasolo later on in the finale.

Ultimately, things worked out for the best between Rachel and Peter, since Rachel and Bryan are still happily married to this day. Abasolo wastes no opportunity to rave about his lady love, praising Rachel by stating in a recent interview, as reported by People:

“I feel like for me, in my situation, Rachel just had like, an X factor, you know? She was a triple threat: brains, beauty, personality, great sense of humor … But the thing is, like, she keeps me on my toes, right? She challenges me to be a better man and I feel like guys need that.”

Desiree Hartsock (season 9)

By the time The Bachelorette aired its ninth season, it was one of the biggest shows on television. That season’s finale didn’t disappoint, becoming one of the most popular finales in franchise history. Frontrunner Brooks Forester eliminated himself from the running in an unprecedented move, causing Desiree Hartsock to flounder — ultimately accepting a proposal from Chris Siegfried.

Although Hartsock went through the wringer on the show and very nearly made the decision to leave the show herself, she ended up finding true love with Chris — and the two got married in 2015.

These days, Hartsock still shares her love story with fans on social media and is hard at work parenting the two young children that she shares with Siegfried. A popular social media influencer, she’s come a long way since her days on The Bachelorette

Tayshia Adams (season 16)

One of the most recent seasons of The Bachelorette is also one of the most interesting — and according to fans, one of the most authentic as well. Bachelorette Tayshia Adams chose frontrunner Zac Clark in the series finale, after weeks of steadily eliminating the other contestants.

Rather than dramatically going through other men in the finale, Tayshia and Zac were able to have a heart-to-heart conversation, realizing that the two of them truly wanted to experience life together. Fans praised the finale on social media, claiming that the heartfelt scenes between Tayshia and Zac helped make the whole season a real standout.

These days, Tayshia and Zac are still together, although they have not been as active on social media in days of late. It certainly seems as though Tayshia and Zac have found that, for them, the key to a happy life together after reality television is to remain low-key and to stay focused on each other.
