Demon Slayer just brought its second outing to a close, but the anime has already been renewed for season 3. And after all that happened in its Mugen Train and Entertainment District arcs, the series has plenty to answer when it brings its Swordsmith Village storyline to life. Here are three of the most pressing questions it should address.

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Demon Slayer‘s Entertainment District Arc.]

1. Who will replace the Flame and Sound Hashira?

The final episode of Demon Slayer‘s Entertainment District Arc hinted that Tanjiro and his friends could eventually join the Hashira. Of course, their latest battle proves they’re still a long way off from that goal. But the upper ranks of the Demon Slayer Corps already lost two members — so, will they replace them in season 3?

This dilemma comes up during the Entertainment District Arc finale when the Serpent Hashira learns of Tengen Uzui’s plan to retire. Obanai laments that the Hashira have lost two of their members already. He wonders how they’ll face the remaining demons in the Twelve Kizuki with their diminished numbers.

It’s a fair question. They’ll either need to make do with what they have or train the younger members of the Demon Slayer Corps faster. Hopefully, season 3 will reveal which path they choose. And with any luck, it will involve Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu leveling up.

2. Which Upper Moon will Tanjiro and his friends face next?

The past two Demon Slayer arcs saw Tanjiro and his companions facing Upper Rank demons, and they’ll likely continue that trend as the anime progresses. Demon Slayer Season 3 is poised to introduce even more powerful opponents than Daki and Gyutaro. That’s not to mention Upper Moon 3 demon Akaza remains hellbent on getting Tanjiro back for the events of the Mugen Train Arc.

Akaza appeared in the Entertainment District Arc finale, so he could return as a Big Bad for season 3. However, there are other Upper Moon demons who have yet to be introduced in the anime. Perhaps we’ll even see the former Upper Moon 6 in a new role. The last episode certainly made a point of introducing him.

3. How will the last battle affect Nezuko’s arc in ‘Demon Slayer’ Season 3?

All of the characters grew significantly in Demon Slayer‘s Entertainment District Arc, but Nezuko had the most interesting transformation. Not only did she unlock a new demon form, but she learned to use her Blood Demon Art — saving Inosuke and Tengen in the process.

These developments open up all sorts of possibilities for her character, making her a threat to both Muzan Kibutsuji and the Demon Slayer Corps. Both sides have reason to fear Nezuko, which could present further obstacles for her and her brother. Her powers could also make her an asset if controlled and leveraged properly.

Season 3 will need to clarify where the anime plans to take Nezuko’s arc next, as well as how it will impact Tanjiro’s storyline. There’s also the matter of Tanjiro finally getting his hands on Upper Rank demon blood at the end of the latest episode. Could he finally make progress toward turning his sister back into a human? Fans will have to tune in for future episodes to find out.

All episodes of Demon Slayer‘s Entertainment District Arc are streaming on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu.
