Fans waited months for the epic conclusion of The Whisperer War on The Walking Dead. The delayed air date was a casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the finale was well worth the wait. Although the episode was a satisfying installment, it left viewers with a few questions.

Luckily, The Walking Dead will deliver six bonus episodes for season 10 before diving into the 11th and final season. With that in mind, here are three burning questions that the season 10 extension needs to answer.

How will Maggie handle the Negan situation?

Maggie exited The Walking Dead canvas during season 9 and remained off camera during the 6-year time jump and most of season 10. Viewers didn’t get another glimpse of Mrs. Rhee until season 10 episode 15, when she received a letter from Carol explaining their dire situation with The Whisperers and asking her to return.

Mags and a masked companion hightailed it back to assist her longtime allies. As it turns out, their timing was perfect for saving Gabriel from certain doom at the hands of murderous Whisperers.

The short on-screen reunion was all hugs and giggles. But time will tell how long the pleasantries will last when Maggie discovers that Negan has been released from his personal prison. It is impossible to forget Negan’s laundry list of monstrous acts, such as the bludgeoning slaughter of two Alexandrians, including Maggie’s husband, Glenn.

In anticipation of the inevitable fallout, Negan portrayer Jeffrey Dean Morgan told New York Comic-Con, “I’m very excited. Lauren and I have talked about it a little bit. So, we’re both very excited to kind of see how that plays out.”

Who is the person behind the mask?

After an extended sojourn away from the core group, Maggie returned with a very mysterious and lethally skilled associate. By our count, the warrior has saved at least three main characters, including the aforementioned Gabriel. But due to the pesky mask, viewers have yet to get a peek at their face.

There are numerous fan theories about who is wearing the mask. But the creative minds behind the show have been tight-lipped about the character thus far. Alas, fans will have to wait patiently until the bonus episodes play out to learn about Maggie’s traveling partner.

Are the people of the Commonwealth friends or foes?

The last time we saw Ezekiel, Eugene, Yumiko, and their new pal Princess, the foursome had found themselves in hot water.

On their journey to Charleston, they had avoided the danger of The Whisperer War back home. The purpose of the group’s road trip was to locate Stephanie, Eugene’s potential love interest, who he met over the radio. When they reached their destination, Steph was nowhere to be found. Instead, a pack of armored and heavily armed soldiers ambushed them, leaving Eugene and company no choice but to surrender their weapons.

The audience was left to ponder the group’s fate at the hands of the soldiers. But, during New York Comic-Con, showrunner Angela Kang dropped a few hints. “I mean, obviously, this is a strange new group that our people have run into,” said Kang. “For comic book fans, they will recognize these characters as soldiers of the Commonwealth. And we will learn a lot more about this group in episodes to come.”
