Happy birthday, Princess Lilibet! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter is officially 3 years old as of June 4, 2024. To mark the special day, we’ve rounded up some of the things the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have said—on rare occasions—about their daughter, ranging from sweet to eye-opening.

1. Lilibet’s comment that stuck with Meghan

During Harry and Meghan’s May 2024 trip to Nigeria, the former American Riviera Orchard founder revealed something Lili said to her just a “few weeks” earlier. The 42-year-old recalled how Lilibet looked into her eyes and saw her own reflection.

“A few weeks ago, she looked at me, and she would just see the reflection in my eyes. She [said], ‘Mama, I see me in you,’” Meghan told local students.

She went on to say that although Lilibet meant what she said “literally,” she “hung onto those words in a very different way.”

“I thought, yes, I do see me and you, and you see me and you. But as I look around this room, I see myself in all of you as well,” Meghan explained.

2. Lili loves singing and dancing

Meghan also opened up more about Lilibet, whose name is a nod to Queen Elizabeth II’s childhood nickname, in Nigeria. While dancing with students, Harry asked: “Is singing and dancing your favorite class?”

At that, Meghan added it’s something Lilibet enjoys. “That’s Lili’s favorite class,” she said (via Daily Mail). “Maybe it’s all the jumping around.”

Elsewhere during the three-day visit, Meghan described Lilibet and her big brother Prince Archie, who turned 5 on May 6, 2024, just before Harry and Meghan headed to the West African country, as “very chatty, sweet children.”

3. Harry sees ‘a lot’ of Princess Diana in his daughter

In Netflix’s December 2022 Harry & Meghan docuseries, the world got perhaps the biggest glimpse of them as parents. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex not only provided their own photos and videos, ranging from playing to bath time but also discussed Archie and Lili.

In a scene in the finale episode, Harry remarked on Archie’s resemblance to Meghan and Lilibet’s to his late mother, Princess Diana, who died at the age of 36 in a 1997 car crash.

“I think at the moment, I see a lot of my wife in Archie,” the now-39-year-old duke said. As for his daughter, Harry said: “I see a lot of my mom in Lili. She’s very Spencer-like. She’s got the same blue eyes [and] golden-reddish hair.”

Lilibet was born on June 4, 2021, in Santa Barbara, California. To date, she’s visited England once on a 2022 Sussex family trip.

During her time across the Atlantic Ocean, Lilibet celebrated her first birthday and is thought to have met her namesake, the late Queen Elizabeth, whom Harry later revealed described the kids as the “sweetest.”

4. Lilibet’s ‘obsessed’ with Archie like Prince Harry was with Prince William as a kid

Lilibet was—and still may be—“obsessed” with her brother. Speaking to the U.K.’s ITV ahead of his memoir’s release on Jan. 10, 2023, Harry told interviewer Tom Bradby that the sibling dynamic between his son and daughter was, at the time, not unlike the one between him and Prince William, 41, as kids.

“The [age] gap between me and William was very similar to Archie and Lili,” Harry said. (Archie and Lilibet are approximately two years apart, while Harry and his brother, the Prince of Wales, are about two years and three months apart.)

“And to see Lili obsessed with Archie and Archie like, ‘No, no, Lili, I need my space. I need my space now.’ I get it…I get how irritating the younger sibling can be to the older sibling.”
