7 of Princess Diana’s Iconic Fashion Items That Are Still Available Today—and Under $200
Princess Diana’s iconic fashion choices live on decades after her death. (Aug. 31, 2024, marks 27 years since she died in Paris, France, following a car crash.) While there are copies of many of her most famous wares, there are also, perhaps surprisingly, a number of items from brands she wore that are still available today.
1. Diana’s iconic fashion items: sheep sweater
Few of Diana’s fashion moments are as iconic as her Warm & Wonderful sheep sweater. At the age of 19, ahead of her royal wedding, she first wore the red sweater, complete with a black sheep among a sea of white ones.
The brand reportedly stopped producing the style in 1994 before reintroducing it decades later through Rowing Blazers. The sheep design is available in the original ‘Diana Red’ shade as well as others. Buy it for $174, a much more wallet-friendly price compared to Diana’s knit that sold for more than $1 million at auction in 2023 (via Harper’s Bazaar).
2. Leopard swimsuit
In the summer of 1997, Diana was spotted wearing this leopard-print Gottex swimsuit while in the South of France. The brand has since re-released the exact same design. Actor Elizabeth Debicki even wore it in her award-winning portrayal of Diana in The Crown Season 6.
Want to channel Diana at the beach or pool? Act quickly because the swimsuit’s currently on sale, marked down from $160 to $64. According to the brand, Gottex founder Leah Gottlieb originally designed it exclusively for Diana.
3/4. Sloppy Joe athleisure
Channel Diana’s iconic gym attire—bike shorts and a sweatshirt—with a design she wore in the ‘90s from the U.K.-based brand Sloppy Joe. The sweatshirt was reintroduced in 2022, albeit with a “few tweaks.”
Formerly known as the ‘Zip Neck Sweatshirt,’ it’s been renamed the ‘Diana Zip Neck Sweatshirt.’ The ‘Pale Mint’ color Diana wore is available for $105.
The brand also sells another sweatshirt, this time with its logo, in a style Diana wore in the ‘90s. It is sold in an aptly named ‘Diana Blue’ shade and retails for $97.
5. Diana’s iconic fashion items: British Lung Foundation sweatshirt
Recreate one of Diana’s most iconic fashion moments with this British Lung Foundation sweatshirt. Diana famously wore hers to a polo match in 1988 with jeans, cowboy boots, a blazer, and a baseball hat.
As seen in The Crown Season 5 on Debicki, a reproduction of the original is available through Asthma + Lung UK for approximately $46.
6. ‘I’m a luxury’ sweater
Channel Diana’s sense of humor with this cheeky Gyles & George sweater. The brand, like the aforementioned Warm & Wonderful, partnered with Rowing Blazers to re-release designs Diana had worn.
As co-founder Gyles Brandreth told Town & Country, Diana originally bought a few of their pieces. However, she was only photographed wearing a salmon-hued graphic sweater. It read: “I’m a luxury—” on the front and “few can afford” on the back.
“Through her downfall and tragedy, there’s this wonderful picture of her with her two boys, who she adored,” he said, referring to Prince William and Prince Harry. (See the photo here). “And she’s there sending herself up saying, ‘I’m a luxury—few can afford.’ That’s sassy, and people liked that about her.”
Get the sweater online via Rowing Blazers for $139.
7. Quilted floral bag
Although she was known for carrying designer bags from the likes of Dior, Ferragamo, and Gucci, Diana did occasionally opt for more affordable accessories. In 1981, shortly before marrying King Charles, she wore a Souleaido quilted floral print shoulder bag to a polo match.
Diana reportedly bought five bags from the brand’s London store, per Glamour, and was later seen carrying it while pregnant with her oldest son, the now-Prince of Wales.
Manufactured in France, the bag is almost identical to the original Diana sported decades ago. Once again named as a nod to Diana, the Adiana quilted cotton floral bag is available for just under $200.
