90 Day Fiancé couple Steven and Alina are finally running into some stumbling blocks — all of which are of Steven’s own creation. The 25-year-old Mormon met 20-year-old Alina on a language learning app, and now the two are staying together in Turkey as they pursue their relationship. Unfortunately, Steven’s behavior with other women and his bevy of female friends are proving a problem for Alina — especially given that Steven asked Alina if he can date other women previously. To try and change her mind, Steven referenced Jesus, and Alina did not seem impressed.

90 Day Fiancé fans were frustrated to learn that Steven had previously asked Alina if he could date other women — something she felt very hurt by. However, it seems as if Alina had difficulty with Steven’s many female friends even before he asked.

“I already have reasons not to trust him because he see other girls, like, spend a lot of time with female friends. He asked me if he can go on dates. And now he wants so badly to live in separate apartments. I don’t like it,” Alina told producers during the show.

“When Steven asked me if he could date other girls, I just burst into tears because he’s in relationship with me and he have to pay attention only on me,” she added.

Although Steven asking Alina to date other people was not the smartest or most sensitive move, there’s nothing wrong with a man having female friends. Steven has provided a bevy of red flags for Alina and viewers alike, but there is some pause to be taken when a significant other feels uncomfortable with their partner having friends of the opposite sex.

That being said, 90 Day Fiancé viewers will have noticed that Steven has done nothing to assuage Alina’s fears — if anything, he’s suspicious behavior has deepened her concerns, and made them more legitimate than they would have been otherwise.

A recent episode saw Alina asking Steven to step away from his female friends. Steven, not thrilled with the idea, brings up Jesus.

“What can I do right now to make you feel better about what happened,” Steven asked.

“Promise me that you’re not gonna communicate with your female friends,” Alina told him. Steven asked if she meant forever, and Alina confirmed that she did.

“But even Jesus had friends who were girls, you know?” Steven replied. Alina looked utterly unimpressed, and shot back a completely dry “wow.”

90 Day Fiancé fans weren’t very impressed with Steven, for obvious reasons. Notably, some fans felt he was comparing himself to Jesus. Meanwhile, others pointed out that it seems as if neither one is truly emotionally or mentally prepared for a serious long-term commitment like marriage.

“If you have to make your fiancé promise you he won’t be friends with the opposite gender ‘forever’ that’s probably a huge red flag that NEITHER of you is ready to be married — let alone to each other,” pointed out a Redditor

“It’s so manipulative. But I loved how it didn’t work with her and she just flatly said ‘wow,’” opined another user.

“Seriously trying to reference Jesus to her and holding back that as a Mormon he has been skoodilypooping. Why on Earth is he using Jesus to state his case? Just for her sake? Is this how he converts others, bc it certainly would not make me want to be Mormon,” added another viewer.
