For a show that is supposed to be about international lovers getting married, a lot of the 90 Day Fiancé couples don’t actually go through with their weddings or even get engaged. Some of the couples have appeared on multiple seasons of the show and never made their relationship legally official. Now, one couple who fans have been watching for seasons may have finally taken the next step.

Jenny and Sumit’s relationship

Jenny Slatten and Sumit have had one of the most tumultuous relationships in the franchise. When they first met, Sumit was using someone else’s photos and claiming to be a guy in England. Eventually, he told Slatten the truth about who he was. When Slatten forgave him, she spent her savings, quit her job, and moved to India. While she was there, she discovered that Sumit was already married.

In one of the most memorable moments in the show’s history, Sumit’s wife’s family showed up and took Sumit away from Jenny. It all happened so fast that even the crew had no idea that Sumit was married.

“I will say for us, and maybe because it’s just still fresh in mind, but when we found out that Sumit was married, that really caught us off guard,” Alon Orstein, Senior Vice President of Production and Development at TLC told E! News.

“So, we quickly scrambled a crew and got them out there because we thought it was a very relevant and important part of the story to tell, provided everyone was still OK participating and telling that story. And that definitely was probably one of the most shocking moments, at least in recent memory on the franchise,” he said.

Slatten eventually forgave Sumit and went back to India. Her time there has been shown on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Season 2.

Are Jenny and Sumit engaged?

This season, Slatten has been pressing Sumit to show her his divorce paperwork. However, Sumit has insisted that divorce proceedings can take years in India and are very expensive. In Sumit’s case, he will not be able to get divorced until he pays his debts to his ex-wife’s family.

Sumit recently posted a picture to Instagram of him and Slatten. In the photo, Slatten rocks a huge ring on her left ring finger. While they did not comment on the nature of the jewelry, fans have been wondering if this means that Slatten is engaged.

The marriage process for Sumit and Slatten has been difficult as Sumit’s family has to approve of their union. They have not been supportive of the relationship in the past as it started while Sumit was already married, so it’s doubtful that his parents have changed their minds and are now allowing Sumit to go through with the marriage.

What does Jenny have to say to her haters?

Slatten has received a lot of criticism for giving Sumit a second chance, but she isn’t worried about what anyone has to say about her.

“It’s gonna happen regardless,” she said at a press conference of receiving criticism. “It’s really difficult for us. We just love each other … we don’t pay attention to those around us. It doesn’t matter and we just don’t pay attention to it. Of course, there’s haters, but we just want people to understand that we love each other regardless of our age difference, our culture and background — Indian, American — it doesn’t matter.”
