’90 Day Fiancé’: Armando Asks His Mother for ‘Full Support’ After Coming Out Again, Announcing Engagement–How She Responds
Armando Rubio and Kenneth Niedermeier are fan favorites on the most recent season of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way. But Armando’s family has had a hard time accepting his relationship. In Sunday’s episode, Armando sits down with his mother to talk about his engagement. And it doesn’t go as well as he hoped.
Armando’s mom reacts to her son’s engagement
“Tell me the truth. Were you surprised when I told you we got engaged?” he asks his mom.
“I was surprised because I didn’t expect it,” she replies. “You didn’t even hint about it. I told you, I am your mother. You must always tell me things first.”
Armando’s mom told him she wishes he told her in private instead of announcing it to a large group of people. This made Armando feel like his mother was embarrassed by his announcement.
“I can tell my mom’s not thrilled still about hearing that Kenny and I are engaged,” he told the cameras. “Her telling me that she would have preferred I told her in private shows me that she’s still struggling with it. I think in some ways maybe she feels embarrassed that I’m gay.”
“She needs to learn how to accept me without worrying what anybody says, thinks, or who is around,” he adds.
Armando asks his mom if she’ll come to his wedding with Kenneth
Armando came out to his family when he was younger, but they weren’t accepting. Now, on 90 Day Fiancé, he’s hoping his family will be more accepting this time around as he introduces Kenneth to everyone and announces the happy news of their engagement.
It seems that Armando’s mother is still hesitant. She tells him she thinks he should have a private ceremony.
“We want to celebrate it,” Armando protests. “Like any other couple when they love each other and they get married, it’s a very important day.”
Armando also asks his mom if she plans on attending the ceremony. Again, she seems hesitant.
“I want it to be a happy day,” he says. “I want to have full support from you and from and the family. So I can feel complete.”
90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on TLC.
