’90 Day Fiancé’: Armando Opens Up About Wife’s Death
90 Day Fiancé couple Kenneth and Armando are the hit TLC franchise’s first male gay couple. However, the two may have a rocky road ahead of them. Armando hasn’t come out to his family yet, and he’s not sure how they’ll deal with Kenneth’s arrival in Mexico. Additionally, while the two are both gay fathers, they have something of an age difference. To make matters more challenging, Armando is dealing with the traumatic loss of his ex-wife.
How Kenneth and Armando wound up on ‘90 Day Fiancé’
Kenneth and Armando have a particularly wholesome story when it comes to how they met and their decision to go on 90 Day Fiancé. In fact, it seems as if Kenneth was already a fan of the show.
Kenneth and Armando met via a gay fathers support group, and despite their 26-year age gap, the two fell in love. Eventually, Kenneth realized that his life was basically a 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way story, and decided they should try and get on the show.
Kenneth told E! Online, “I watched a couple seasons of it, I thought it was great. Of course, I never dreamed I could be on a show like that.”
Kenneth went on to say, “We both went into this wanting to tell our story. We want to show our love and we want people to see that. I said in one of the teasers, love is a powerful thing. Love can stop wars. We’re hoping that love can melt hearts and love can open minds.”
The ‘90 Day Fiancé’ couple dishes on their age difference
The 90 Day Fiancé couple also sports a sizable age difference, with Kenneth at 57 (though who would ever know from looking at him), and Armando at 31. However, the two seem unphased by the gap.
Kenneth joked to ET of their age gap, “Yeah, it’s a whole adult human.”
Kenneth went on to reveal that Armando actually made the first move. He said, “I was surprised because of the age difference. I said, ‘What about our age difference?’ and he said, ‘I don’t care.’ And once he didn’t care [shrugs] … it’s been the best relationship I’ve ever had.”
Aramando added, “By the time I found out his age, you know, we had already been talking a lot. We had already laughed a lot, so I had gotten to know him as a person … I really liked his personality. As you can attest, he looks younger, so again, it wasn’t like I was seeing, like, an old guy or anything like that. By the time I found out his age, it didn’t matter, you know, we get along great. And I’m an old soul, so we kind of balance each other.”
Armando opens up about wife’s passing
While Armando is already facing the difficulty of coming out to his family, he also has to deal with the trauma left behind by his ex-wife’s death. The 90 Day Fiancé star took to Instagram to dish on his past relationship and what went down.
90 Day Fiancé blogger John Yates captured the post from Armando’s Instagram story. The reality star wrote, “This message is to clear up my daughter’s mother’s passing. I am addressing this to clear up any confusion as I did not want to go into specifics on the show but now I find it necessary. My then-wife and I had been separated for a few months before her passing for a number of reasons, one of which was anger issues she was working on.”
“During our separation we were working on rebuilding our friendship again…During the divorce proceedings and on the evening of her passing a disagreement took place over finances and I thought it would be best to leave the situation and return back to my home. After that, 15-20 minutes later I was driving down the highway and I was shocked when I was suddenly struck from behind and then was hit again,” Armando revealed.
Armando’s next revelation is truly shocking. “I then realized it was my ex-wife and before I knew it she lost control of her vehicle and passed away on the scene. As you can understand this was a very tragic event in the life of my daughter and I as we lost her and un unborn baby. This was a very difficult moment for everyone involved, myself, our family, our friends and has been a long grieving process and out of respect for my daughter’s mother and her memory I ask for your empathy and understanding on this personal tragedy. Thank you,” he concluded.
