’90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days’ Season 5 Star Alina Speaks Out Against Assumptions Fans are Making About Dating a Disabled Person
It didn’t take long before 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days Season 5 audiences began to cringe at how Caleb treats Alina. The show introduced seven new couples this season. Plus, it features the 90 Day Fiancé franchise’s first little person, Alina. Fans feel like Caleb’s reactions toward some of her requirements are a little harsh. However, Alina took to Instagram recently to set some things straight.
Fans aren’t happy with ‘Before the 90 Days’ Season 5 star Caleb
Alina is a Russian model and singer with a medical condition known as diastrophic dysplasia. It’s a form of dwarfism but affects everyone differently. For Alina, the disease affects her joints and is the reason behind her short stature.
Caleb recently angered fans with his facial expressions and remarks relating to the assistance Alina may sometimes need when traveling together in Turkey. Fans think he seemed annoyed when discovering that Alina would be bringing her friend Elijah with her to help her handle her luggage in the airport and other various tasks.
When he arrived at the airport and finally met Alina in person, he remarked, “You’re smaller than I thought.” When Alina went on to ask him if it was weird, instead of assuring her it wasn’t, he replied, “It’s different.”
Due to the diastrophic dysplasia, Alina needs help transporting her wheelchair around. While she can walk, she told producers of Before the 90 Days Season 5 that it gets painful if she has to walk for long distances. Caleb, who was in charge of booking the hotel, failed to ensure that the facility was handicap-accessible. When Alina asked him to carry her wheelchair up the front steps, he rubbed his hands with his face. Many fans thought this was a sign of annoyance on his part.
Alina wants fans to get something straight about dating a disabled person
It looks like Alina is taking up for Caleb against some of the fans’ comments about his behavior. The 27-year-old recently posted an image of herself on Instagram with the following caption:
“I’m surprised by how many people think if you date someone with a disability, you become their caregiver. And that there’s no way around it.
Yes, the help might be needed, but there’s always a choice. There are people who do this professionally and you can hire them if you’re too busy for it. There are programs (in Russia not so much though) that help to pay for it or it can even be free. And honey, who’s stopping you from getting rich and successful to afford all the services?!
Also, a lot of stuff in a permanent residence can be designed in a way where there’s much less help needed than in some unfamiliar places. It’s the same at my home and it can be even better, but frankly, I don’t want to put too much effort in that since I don’t own the apartment I live in, I just rent it.
And last but not least… we all help each other. Think about how many times you asked someone to do something. Human beings can’t really survive just solo.”
Alina doesn’t specifically mention Caleb by name in the caption. Although, it seems as though she’s hinting at fans to cut him a little slack.
