’90 Day Fiancé’: Corey and Evelin Defend Marriage Lie on Instagram
90 Day Fiancé couple Corey and Evelin are not in fans’ good graces right now. Corey Rathgeber and Evelin Villegas’ storyline on the show involves the two planning a wedding in Ecuador, but fan suspicions that the two were already married have recently been confirmed. Now Corey and Evelin are scrambling to defend themselves on social media, but fans aren’t very impressed — especially since they weren’t too excited to see the couple return to the show in the first place.
Corey and Evelin are already married
90 Day Fiancé couple Corey and Evelin are not the most well-loved pair on the show. After an absence from the franchise, the two have returned for the latest season of The Other Way, but fans have not been thrilled.
The general consensus amongst fans is that Evelin Villegas walks all over Corey Rathgeber, who seems unable or unwilling to stand up for himself. When a copy of their marriage status began circulating, courtesy of Soap Dirt, the two lost even more credibility with fans.
Ecuadorian documents clearly show Evelin Villegas’ marital status as “married,” alongside a “spouse” segment filled out with Corey Rathgeber’s name.
As it became increasingly clear to everyone that TLC was stringing them along with a false 90 Day Fiancé storyline, Corey Rathgeber tried to get out ahead of the story on Instagram, playing it off like it’s part of their journey on the show.
“It’s finally revealed that we did actually get married years ago… Stay tuned because so many of the long-awaited questions will be answered very soon! Are you guys ready?” he wrote on Instagram.
‘90 Day Fiancé’ stars defend themselves on social media
Since then, 90 Day Fiancé couple Corey and Evelin have doubled down on trying to defend themselves on social media, claiming that they weren’t lying to fans, but rather that they’d gotten married while no longer on the TLC contract.
“So rumors are not right! We weren’t married when we filmed we got married after being done with filming our first season,” wrote Evelin Villegas on her Instagram story. While this may be true, it doesn’t answer the question of why they’re filming their current season in such a fashion as to suggest they’re not currently married.
Corey Rathgeber opened his Instagram story up to Q&As, and of course, there were plenty of questions about his marriage to Evelin Villegas.
“Why did you lie about being married?” asked one fan.
“Keep watching and you will see we aren’t hiding or [lying] about anything,” he replied with a wink emoji.
“Why did you decide to keep your marriage a secret?” asked another user.
“Evelin wasn’t ready for everyone to know so we kept it private. I respected her wishes until she was ready,” replied Corey. Which of course begs the question, why? Perhaps for a TLC script?
