’90 Day Fiancé’: Episode Preview Sees Asuelu Getting Sexist With Kalani and Her Mother
90 Day Fiancé star Asuelu isn’t winning any points with viewers or Kalani lately. Kalani has been struggling to take care of their son, effectively on her own, but Asuelu doesn’t seem to feel that’s the case. In fact, he believes that Kalani has it easy compared to Samoan women — he says all American women have it easy. To make matters worse, Asuelu doubled down on baiting Kalani and said some increasingly mean things to his partner.
Asuelu gets sexist on ‘90 Day Fiancé’
Asuelu certainly has some ideas rooted in outdated perspectives on women and men. The reality star seemed shocked when Kalani informed him that their sons see a female doctor — clearly Asuelu didn’t think this was a normal occurrence.
Asuelu’s outdated viewpoints became even more apparent during a recent teaser for 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After. Kalani, Asuelu, and Kalani’s mother are in the car heading to California, and things very quickly take a turn for the worse.
Asuelu expressed frustration with Kalani for not wanting to go to Samoa in the wake of a measles outbreak. He claimed that he doesn’t feel as if he’s the “man of the house,” another outdated way of thinking about relationships. He also said he feels ganged up on.
Things soon began to spiral. Kalani asked him if he thinks her work is easy. He nodded yes. Kalani’s mother pressed the issue, asking him, “Just her job, or all women’s jobs?”
He confirmed, “Women’s jobs.”
Kalani’s mother pushed harder, asking, “Really? All women? Even in your country, too?” That’s when Asuelu specified — American women only.
“Women’s job here, it’s easy. Cleaning the house. Put the laundry in the machine, machine cleans it. Put the dishes in the dishwasher. Everything here, you can use machines. Even the kids, you can put on TV. Watch, easy,” claimed Asuelu.
When Kalani asks him why he doesn’t simply help with it or do it himself, he says it’s women’s work.
Asuelu lashes out at Kalani
Sadly, Asuelu decided to double down on insulting Kalani during their car ride. When Kalani claimed she does virtually all the child-rearing in their home, he called her a “lying b*tch.”
He later told her, “And the sound of your voice is so f*cking annoying, too.” When Kalani’s mother tried to stick up for her daughter, Asuelue told her that he can speak however he pleases to his wife.
It doesn’t seem like Kalani’s husband is winning any big points with his mother-in-law.
‘90 Day Fiancé’ fans react
90 Day Fiancé fans were shocked disgusted by Asuelue’s behavior. One Reddit user simply said of him, “There’s absolutely nothing appealing about this guy. Not his looks, not his personality, and certainly not his parenting skills.”
One user agreed that Asuelu is behaving poorly, but they also suggested Kalani needs to fight for herself. They wrote, “He’s an idiot but Kalani needs to stand up for herself. She just takes his stupid crap. She needs to light him up over some of the things he says.”
Another suggested that he’s pushing Kalani’s buttons on purpose, intentionally trying to get a rise out of her. They suggested, He cannot seriously be saying this. He has the look on his face of a person who just wants to p*ss you off on purpose. The whole environment in that car felt really off, but shi*. This conversation was painful to listen to.”
“He is really showing his true colors this season. He thinks women can’t be doctors, wanna drag his kids somewhere that has a deadly virus going on, doesn’t help with the kids and his wife and acts like money is falling from the sky. Like mate, grow up!” opined another Redditor.
