90 Day Fiancé couple Erika Owens and Stephanie Matto seem like they’re on the rocks these days. Matto flew to Australia to meet Owens, and since then, it seems as if the two haven’t been seeing totally eye-to-eye. Owens took Matto to a local party with her friends, where Matto soon discovered that Owens had a somewhat intimate friendship that Matto found uncomfortable. Meanwhile, some fans dogpiled Matto for seemingly not enjoying herself at all, and for bringing the party down. Since then, Erika Owens has dished on her relationship with her friend, Adam, and what it means to her.
Stephanie Matto asked fans to be nice to Erika Owens
Stephanie Matto must have known that Erika Owens’ friendship with Adam and Matto’s subsequent reaction might raise a few eyebrows among fans of the show, because she asked fans to be gentle before the episode aired.
During the episode, Stephanie Matto learns that Erika Owens has a close friend, Adam. She learns that Owens and Adam have kissed in the past, and occasionally share a bed when they spend the night at each others’ place.
Matto wrote, “Before tonight’s episode I want to STRONGLY encourage people to abstain from leaving any hate on Erika or Adam’s social media. Adam has a close relationship with Erika which obviously made me feel some way and that is my problem and not his. Leaving someone hate on social media, name calling, etc. will not make me, you, or Erika feel better or change anything. I intend on watching, learning, and trying to better myself.”
Redditors seemed to get a kick out of the post, however, with many of them noting that they were most confused by Matto’s behavior. One Redditor commented, “I’m not the type to leave hate on anybody’s social media, but if I was, I’m fairly sure that out of the three options, it wouldn’t be on Adam’s or Erika’s.”
Erika Owens dishes on her friendship with Adam
Following the party episode, Erika Owens took to Instagram to dish on her friend. The 90 Day Fiancé star was clearly put off by Matto’s reaction to her friendship with Adam, and has received comments from some fans who feel that Matto’s frustration was justified.
Erika Owens posted a photo of herself and Adam to her Instagram. She captioned it, “Adam is one of my closest mates. We sing together, give each other fashion advice, we can both appreciate a nice butt. He tells it like it is, calls me out if I’m being a drama queen and isn’t afraid to be unapologetically himself. Anyone who knows him knows he has a heart of gold…and he ALWAYS keeps sriracha in the cupboard for my pizza. “
Owens went on to add, “We kissed, once (or twice) upon a time. When we were single. Big deal y’all. Welcome to small towns. There will never, EVER be more to our friendship than that. I will never try to hide the connection we have AS FRIENDS or feel bad for it. When your friends are sad, I’m sure you’d give them a hug and tell them they’re loved too. Everyone needs an Adam in their life. Love you ya big idiot.”⠀
‘90 Day Fiancé’ fans react to Erika Owens’ post
90 Day Fiancé fans seemed to have a mixed reaction to Stephanie Matto’s behavior at the party, and that manifests itself in some of the comments on Owens’ Instagram post.
One user commented, “So basically you want Steph to understand you want an open relationship? I mean if you kissed and was intimate with several friends that’s weird and not cool jmt….. someone had to say it [sic].”
“Steph really was so inappropriate and it’s not a good representation of those of us from the US. I’m starting to feel that she used you for fame,” opined another commenter.
Another user suggested that the two just aren’t meant to be. They wrote, “I see both sides and it simply looks like you and Steph are incompatible.”
