’90 Day Fiancé’: Fans Already Have a Favorite Couple On ‘The Other Way’ Season 2

Kenneth Niedermeier and his Mexican fiancé, Armando, made ’90 Day Fiancé’ history when they became the first-ever gay male couple on the TLC franchise. After the season 2 premiere of ’90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way,’ many fans thought Kenneth and Armando would be the most successful couple on the upcoming season.

Kenneth Niedermeier, a 57-year-old dad of four adult children from St. Petersburg, Florida, and his 31-year-old Mexican fiancé, Armando, are the first gay male couple in 90 Day Fiancé history (after Erika Owens and Stephanie Matto became the first-ever same-sex couple on the show). Despite their age difference and the fact that Armando’s family didn’t even know he was bringing his future husband to his home country, the pair quickly became fan favorites.

On the June 8 premiere of the second season of TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Armando and Kenneth raved about each other as they prepared to sacrifice everything they knew for their relationship. Armando worried about coming out to his family, while Kenneth lamented the fact that he would have to leave his four kids and young grandson behind in the U.S.

Kenneth and Armando gushed about each other on the season premiere of ‘The Other Way’

On 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Kenneth’s excitement was palpable as he prepared to make a major change in his life to be with Armando.

“I’m moving to Mexico in two weeks to be with the love of my life,” Kenneth shared. Of his much younger fiancé, the 57-year-old said, “Armando has got it all. Beautiful smile, beautiful eyes, his body is great.”

And while Kenneth knew just how much he was sacrificing and risking for Armando, he said he couldn’t have been more worth it. “I’ve given up so much to be with Armando. But he is worth everything,” the 90 Day Fiancé star said. “To give up everything for one person, love is a powerful thing.”

Meanwhile, Armando said he knew just how much Kenny was sacrificing—like his home, job, and family life—to be with him. “Kenny is giving up everything he knows. He’s leaving his country for me,” the 31-year-old said of his future husband.

The couple was concerned about homophobia and Armando’s family

Despite Kenneth and Armando’s passion for each other, they had some major hurdles to overcome before they could live together in wedded bliss in Mexico. Armando came out while he was still married to a woman, the mother of his daughter Hannah.

After separating from his wife, he told his parents about his sexual orientation—but they didn’t accept the news. A few months later, his estranged wife tragically died in a car accident, and his parents never discussed Armando’s announcement again.

Now, of course, Armando would have to come out to his parents for a second time—both about his own sexual orientation and about his plans to marry Kenneth.

On the season premiere, Kenneth wanted to know if Armando had talked to his parents yet.

“I haven’t,” Armando admitted.

And while Kenneth assured Armando that he was sure all would go well, he admitted that the cards might be stacked against them. “Armando’s really worried, because his parents, they’re not accepting of him,” the 90 Day Fiancé star confessed. “So the last four years, they’ve hardly even talked about him being gay. They’ve never talked face to face about me.”

“I have no clue at all how his parents will react,” Kenneth lamented. “I’m hoping he gets a positive outcome out of it, but it’s a roll of the dice. Hopefully, they’ll have open hearts and will accept us. All you can do is hope.”
