’90 Day Fiancé’: Fans Are Calling Out the ‘Double Standard’ Between Geoffrey Paschel and Larissa Dos Santos Lima
90 Day Fiancé is a show that people absolutely love. But there are some things that fans say just aren’t fair about it. They have most recently accused the show of practicing a double standard when it comes to abuse allegations, pointing its alleged treatment of Geoffrey Paschel and Larissa Dos Santos Lima over their criminal histories.
Inside Geoffrey Paschel’s criminal history
Geoffrey has a rap sheet that includes a conviction for drug charges and allegations of domestic violence from multiple women. The most recent allegations came in June 2019 when an ex-partner accused him of viciously attacking her in a home they shared.
The ex claimed in court documents obtained by USA Today, “He repeatedly bashed/slammed my head into the hardwood floors of my home. He dragged me through the house by my hair and continued throwing my body into walls and furniture. I know this because of blood on my walls, furniture, etc.”
The report says the ex was treated for several injuries while Geoffrey was charged with domestic assault, interference with emergency calls, vandalism, and aggravated kidnapping.
Though he has denied all wrongdoing, fans petitioned to have him removed from the fourth season of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days — which ran from February to June — after learning of the alleged altercation.
The show ultimately chose to keep airing his story. However, when Geoffrey did not appear at the reunion special, rumors emerged that he had been fired due to ongoing complaints about the allegations. (In a later appearance on The Domenick Nati Show, Geoffrey insisted that he had not been let go.)
Larissa Dos Santos Lima’s criminal history
Now, contrast that with what has happened to Larissa.
Larissa was arrested multiple times for domestic abuse against her co-star Colt before they divorced in 2019 following a fight that reportedly left him bloodied and swollen. But despite that, Lima is still featured on the show.
As of writing, she’s on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After with her new boyfriend Eric. However, her legal woes from her previous relationship are a big part of her storyline.
Fans are pretty upset about it
Fans who follow the show and all of its spinoffs have been expressing their feelings on social media. One person tweeted: “Little bit of a double standard that TLC cut ties with Geoffrey for domestic violence but not Larissa.”
“I don’t really know how they kick Geoffrey off 90 Day Fiancé because of his past with domestic violence but then Larissa is still on tv after being arrested THREE times for domestic violence….. double standards are real,” read another tweet.
“You continue to reward Larissa, a convicted domestic abuser with airtime. Why not Geoffrey then? Because he is a male abuser? Female abusers get a free pass? STOP PROMOTING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE!” commented another.
TLC has yet to respond to the criticism, but since Geoffrey has maintained that he was not fired from the show, maybe there’s really nothing to say.
