’90 Day Fiancé’: Fans Defend Elizabeth Potthast Castravet From ‘Mom-Shaming’ After Breastfeeding Photo
Andrei Castravet and Elizabeth Potthast Castravet celebrated their second wedding in Andrei’s home country of Moldova on a recent episode of TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After. Despite some drama with a very tipsy Charlie Potthast, Elizabeth’s brother, the wedding was a beautiful, lavish affair that had many 90 Day Fiancé fans gushing.
After the wedding episode aired, Elizabeth and Andrei shared photos of their traditional Moldovan wedding ceremony and elaborate reception on Instagram. But one particular snapshot—of Elizabeth nursing the couple’s one-year-old daughter, Eleanor, in her bridal gown—sparked the most attention from fans.
Elizabeth shared a photo of herself nursing at her wedding
Elizabeth recently shared a series of photos of herself in her gorgeous bridal gown with her young daughter, Eleanor, on Instagram.
In one photo, Andrei’s wife was breastfeeding their daughter. “She is far more precious than jewels,” Elizabeth wrote of little Eleanor in the caption.
Immediately, 90 Day Fiancé fans praised the 30-year-old mom for being so open about her choice to breastfeed. Some even declared that the poignant moment between mother and daughter should be framed.
“You look radiant and real,” one of Elizabeth’s Instagram followers raved. “I love that you posted this. Breastfeeding is beautiful and natural.”
Another fan agreed, writing, “THIS is your most beautiful picture from the day!! What is more beautiful than motherhood.”
Some ’90 Day Fiancé’ viewers criticized Elizabeth
Still, not all the reactions to Elizabeth’s breastfeeding photo were positive. Some critics thought the moment should have been kept private, while others argued that the 90 Day Fiancé star should have used a nursing cover or blanket at her wedding.
“That is so unattractive,” one critic commented on Instagram. “I’m a mom and I’ve never done that, cover-up no one wants to see that.”
“What the hell this is ridiculous putting this picture on Instagram!” another detractor remarked.
Several others wrote that “the whole world didn’t want to see” a picture of a bride nursing at her wedding, calling the photo inappropriate and attention-seeking.
Fans immediately defended the ’90 Day Fiancé’ star
Despite some critical comments, the vast majority of the 90 Day Fiancé star’s followers jumped to her defense. Some fans pointed out that breastfeeding was as natural as any other form of eating and shouldn’t have to be hidden. Hundreds of others pushed back against the criticism, calling it a form of “mom-shaming.”
“No need to shame others for such a natural thing,” one such fan wrote.
Another agreed, commenting, “Like you’ve never seen a boob before! It’s actually the most beautiful thing.”
“Mom shaming another mom. How nice,” one of Elizabeth’s supporters wrote sarcastically to a critic. “If you don’t wanna see it cover your eyes then.”
Many 90 Day Fiancé fans jumped in to thank Elizabeth for working to “normalize” breastfeeding instead of treating it as “hidden and shameful.”
“Not a mom and don’t plan to be but I love how you and many others on the cast have shown no restraint breastfeeding on camera and on social media,” one supporter wrote. “THAT’S reality and should be shown and normalized more.”
For her part, Elizabeth didn’t respond to any of the criticism. Instead, she simply thanked her supporters and reposted several of their kind comments in reply.
