’90 Day Fiancé’ Fans Feel Big Ed Treats Rose Like a Child
90 Day Fiancé star Big Ed received a shock this weekend when he woke up to find himself alone. Rose, a 23-year-old single mother from the Philippines, decided she’d had enough after Ed revealed he’d been hiding a lie from her this whole time. For Rose, this was the straw that broke the camel’s back following a slew of insulting interactions and infantilizing conversations. Now, some fans are pointing out how Big Ed tends to treat Rose like a child, and how much it frustrates them.
Big Ed tells Rose how to take care of herself
Big Ed seems to have set certain expectations for the women in his life that he expects them to follow. The 90 Day Fiancé star faced disdain from Rose after asking her to shave her legs in order to make him happy.
After an uncomfortable night during which Ed gave Rose a foot massage as well as an unwanted kiss, Ed gave Rose his opinion. He turned to her and said, “Um, don’t be mad at me, but um, I noticed your legs were kind of like mine, they were hairy. Would you shave your legs?”
Rose looked annoyed after Ed’s question. Unfortunately, it seems this is a pattern of behavior for her 90 Day Fiancé co-star. During another hotel stay, Ed gave Rose a toothbrush and mouthwash after telling her that she had bad breath.
“I got you a couple more things. This is going to be less romantic. So, this is mouthwash. And I got you a cute toothbrush because your breath is not pretty,” he told Rose as he gave her his gifts.
Rose explained to Ed that she has an ulcer which causes bad breath, and that she brushes her teeth every day. She then called Ed ugly in Tagalog.
Rose bails on Big Ed
It turns out that Ed had been keeping a secret from Rose the entire time they were together. The 90 Day Fiancé star already has an adult child older than Rose, and so he has no interest in having additional children.
Rose, meanwhile, has a son already, and would like to have a daughter someday. What Ed neglected to tell Rose is that he plans on getting a vasectomy.
During Ed’s debut episode, he admitted both to his friend and to producers that he aims to get a vasectomy. He told his friend, “Well, she already wants another child, she wants a girl. And I haven’t told her this, I don’t want to tell her this, but I want to get nipped.”
He went on to tell producers, “There’s another thing and that is I don’t want any more kids. I want to get a vasectomy but I don’t want to tell her. I’m already going to take on a four-year-old kid, but to take on another child on top of that, it’s just overwhelming,” added Ed. “I’m at a place in my life where I’ve raised my daughter. She’s 29 and I’m 54. Other than Prince, I’m not ready to have more kids.”

Big Ed certainly has his own diehard fans, but many 90 Day Fiancé viewers have expressed disappointment with his behavior towards Rose on the show. Some feel as though the reality star patronizes Rose, and that he talks down to her like a child.
One Redditor wrote, “I hate how he talks to her like a baby. ‘These are clothes. For outside. the beach. This is for your top!’ Like, [of course] she knows what a bikini is. She lives in the Philippines [for f*ck’s sake]. Not some secluded, never been contacted village on K2.”
“He speaks to her in that fake-soft voice like she’s a tween. She’s a 23 year old woman with a son. Caloocan is in Metro Manila, and she’s obviously internet savvy and speaks English,” added another Redditor.
“He was equally terrible on the plane he made sure to tell everyone at the airport how she had never flown before. He wanted an award because he bought her a $221 ticket to an island. If you know it is her first flight, sure, make sure she has a window etc. but stop acting like some big shot because she has never flown. He loved telling everyone that. Explaining how a bikini works was the worst but well covered by others,” opined another user.
Another Redditor brought up that Ed definitely code switches when he talks to Rose as opposed to others. They wrote, “Yep. It doesn’t even occur to him to be honest to her about anything, or show her respect, because he doesn’t see her as a person. He talks to her like a child. It was blatantly clear in the difference in tone and word choice when he was speaking with his friend on the phone. He was speaking naturally, speaking to the person on the other end like a normal person. Then he immediately code switches to his idiot vocabulary and tone when speaking to Rose. Because he doesn’t see her as an equal. I’m beyond disgusted by him and people like him.”
