’90 Day Fiance’: Fans Slam David and Lana’s Engagement Because Their Relationship is Terrible
If fans were tuning in to the reality show 90 Day Fiance for some unbelievable drama that makes their own love lives seem tame, they definitely got what they were looking for. Between a contestant with a criminal history that includes kidnapping charges and a relationship with a big age gap that might just be for fame, the show has definitely been filled with a lot more drama than romance.
Among all these twisted relationships, David Murphey and his girlfriend Lana have definitely been the most confusing for fans. No one really understands why Murphey can’t see that he’s being scammed, and watching the relationship play out is cringe-inducing.
David Murphey and Lana have been “dating” for years
For a long time, fans of the show were convinced that Lana wasn’t even a real person. She and David Murphey had been allegedly dating for seven years by the time their relationship became a main plot point on the reality series.
They met through an online dating service, and Murphey had been paying top dollar to continue accessing the service to connect with Lana as well as showering her with expensive gifts. There had been multiple attempts to meet up over the years, but Lana always had an excuse for why it wasn’t going to work out.
It seemed obvious to viewers that Murphey was being “catfished” to keep his money flowing. Further complicating things is the fact that Lana, who lives in Ukraine, is one of many, many women who Murphey has pursued through these online dating services. The wealthy man seemed to be opening himself up to scams, and fans couldn’t believe that he was so dense.
At one point, Murphey even hired a private investigator who came back with evidence that Lana was not who she said she was and that Murphey was being tricked. Murphey, however, dismissed the evidence before him and instead continued to pursue a relationship with a woman he’d never met.

To the shock of just about every viewer, Lana finally did show up in the flesh. That didn’t, however, mean they were convinced the relationship was real.
As Murphey moved forward with plans to get more serious, viewers continued to shake their heads in frustration. On top of everything else, Murphey’s interactions with Lana are awkward and uncomfortable to watch.
When they hug, she stands stiff and disconnected while he inappropriately moans. The entire thing feels imbalanced and more than a little creepy.
None of that stopped the pair from moving forward with an engagement. Murphey explained that he would soon be moving to Ukraine to be with Lana despite the fact that the mysterious woman was still active on dating sites. Murphey defended the practice by saying that Lana had to stay on the sites because the people she met there were her “only” friends and sees nothing wrong with the fact that he still has to communicate with her through the paid service rather than the iPhone he bought her.
Fans think the relationship is doomed
It seems pretty clear to fans that Lana has no intention of being in an actual relationship with Murphey and only came forward in-person to keep the ruse going. Even Murphey admits that their engagement is no longer functional.
“Right now, I would say we are not together,” he said. However, he didn’t seem to believe it was truly over. He blamed the break on the stress of the show and added, “I’m not going to say we won’t be together in the future.”
While some fans express sympathy for Murphey’s situation, many are losing patience with the man and can’t believe he is continuing to act so foolishly.
