Ariela spent two and a half months in the United States to get Avi an emergency hernia surgery. Now that Avi recovered, Ariela is more worried about the state of her relationship. She said, “Bini’s reckless behavior is not only embarrassing to me but our entire family.” Ariela explained, “But I promised Bini I would not keep him from Avi, so I’ve decided to go to the neighboring country of Kenya. We’ve been there before and for me. It’s neutral territory.”
Ariela gives Biniyam an ultimatum. He can either follow Ariela and Avi to Kenya or break up and write up a custody agreement. She says, “I’m going to give you a chance if you want to try to be a family. Me and Avi and you can move to Mombasa, and we can start over again.”

Ariela hired a translator to talk to Biniyam, so there weren’t any miscommunications in their conversation. She told Biniyam their mutual friends and family claim to have seen Biniyam with “different women” around town. She concluded that all of the information points to Biniyam cheating on her.
Ariela explained, “So, because of the shame that I’ve begun to feel, I realized that I could never go back and live in Ethiopia.” She said, “People have seen you with one or two particular women, again and again.” Biniyam denies that he ever was unfaithful to her. He said Ariela is just “imagining” that he is cheating because she was so far away. “I definitely did not cheat on her,” Biniyam says. “Until you take responsibility for your actions and your decisions, I will never be in a romantic relationship again,” Ariela tells him.
