Steven expects Alina to be pure while he isn’t a virgin himself
Alina was speaking to her friends about her move to Turkey to be with Steven. When her friends asked her if they planned to have sex, Alina said no. She told them that having sex isn’t “the most important thing” in a relationship. She continued, “He’s a very religious person, and we want to save ourselves for marriage.” She tells the cameras, “I’m still a virgin. Not because I planned it, it just never happened.” She continued, “So since I respect the rules of Mormon religion, Steven and I agreed to be innocent, untouched, and pure for each other.”
Steven told Alina over a video call that he booked two separate apartments in Turkey to maintain their purity and not “accidentally” have sex. So it came as a shock for audiences to hear that Steven wasn’t a virgin. He said, “For me, the hardest thing about my religion has been the law of chastity. And it’s just something that I am very tempted by and something that I’ve struggled with.” When asked to elaborate, he revealed he’s not a virgin and has had “sexual relationships in the past.”

Discussing the hypocritical relationship between Steven and Alina, 90 Day Fiancé fans mentioned that they think Steven may see Alina as the ‘Madona’ and essentially see all of the other women as whores. Sigmund Freud’s ‘Madonna-whore complex’ is described (via Wikipedia) as a “psychological complex is said to develop in men who see women as either saintly Madonnas or debased prostitutes.” It reads, “Men with this complex desire a sexual partner who has been degraded (the whore) while they cannot desire the respected partner (the Madonna).”
90 Day Fiancé fans went to Reddit to discuss Steven and Alina’s relationship. On a post about Steven saying that Alina is the type of woman he wants as a wife, fans couldn’t help but think it’s only because she’s still a virgin. One user wrote, “Yea, have you heard of the Madonna-whore complex. The idea that some men can separate women into 2 types. Sexless Madonnas that are to be loved, and whore that are only good for sexual gratification. We are all whores to Steven, whereas Alina is a Madonna.”
Steven is going to tell Alina he’s not a virgin
Alina revealed to her friends that Steven had asked her permission to go on dates with other women. Alina quickly shot down that idea. However, it’s caused a lot of mistrust between them. Steven is nervous to tell Alina about him breaking the law of chastity in the past.
This could cause Alina to doubt that he has been faithful to her while they were in a long-distance relationship. The plan is for them to marry in Turkey and then apply for Steven’s Russian visa. However, Steven’s hypocritical views on sex before marriage might be a deal-breaker for Alina.
