’90 Day Fiancé’: How Did Asuelu Pulaa and Kalani Faagata Meet?
After TLC introduced fans to 90 Day Fiancé stars Kalani Faagata and Asuelu Pulaa during season 6, they returned this summer for season 5 of the spinoff Happily Ever After? The drama has escalated in recent weeks thanks to Asuelu’s Samoan family and their money demands. But the couple has faced obstacles since the beginning of their relationship.
Kalani claims she does not want to be married anymore
During the most recent episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, Kalani was in tears after an explosive conversation with Asuelu’s mom, Lesina, and sister, Tammy. It is common in Samoan culture for adult children to take care of their aging parents financially, and Lesina has been demanding cash from Asuelu and Kalani.
However, Asuelu doesn’t work full-time. He and Kalani also have two small children – Oliver, 2, and Kennedy, 15 months – and her parents have moved in to help. But, Lesina made it clear to Kalani that she doesn’t care about the kids. She wants the money she believes she’s entitled to. This was just too much for Kalani to handle.
“I’m tired and I’m emotionally exhausted, and I need to sleep. I just need to go home and figure things out. I’m just done. I don’t want to be married anymore,” said Kalani. “I love him, but I have to start loving myself and my boys more.”
The ’90 Day Fiancé’ stars met during Kalani’s first trip to Samoa
According to In Touch Weekly, Kalani first met Asuelu when she was on vacation in Samoa. He was working as the resort’s activities director. She says that he “semi-stalked” her around the resort, but it was “really sweet.”
Kalani says that Asuelu would watch her when she was in the swimming pool, or if she was out walking around. She admits that one night she saw Asuelu shirtless and thought to herself, “OK, this could work.”
Things didn’t get physical between the two right away, though. Kalani grew up in the Mormon faith, and she explained that she was a virgin when she met Asuelu. Kalani says she was taught in her faith to not have sex before marriage. But, during her second visit to Samoa, Kalani says she wanted to experience sex with Asuelu because she had found someone she loved.
“So, we did the deed,” said Kalani. But, right away Kalani became pregnant. This, of course, changed everything.
Neither family has been supportive of the ’90 Day Fiancé’ stars’ relationship
While Asuelu’s family has been at odds with Kalani during recent episodes of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, her family didn’t approve of Asuelu from the beginning. Kalani explained that her family thought that Asuelu hooked up with “all of the American tourist girls.” They were concerned that he was taking advantage of her.
“And then I had to tell them, ‘Hey, I’m not a virgin anymore and I had sex and by the way, I’m having a baby,'” said Kalani.
When her dad found out about the pregnancy, Kalani says he flipped out. Her sister was convinced that Asuelu got Kalani pregnant on purpose so he could move to America. After Kalani gave birth to Oliver, she and Asuelu discussed where they wanted to raise their baby. They agreed there were “more opportunities” in America, so they filed a K-1 visa application.
