’90 Day Fiance’: Is This the Real Reason Michael Ilesanmi’s Visa Application Got Rejected?
Getting a visa to come over to America is getting harder and harder these days, especially if you are from certain countries. The couples on 90 Day Fiance are all using the K-1 Visa in order to remain together in the United States until they get married. But because it’s so hard to get that visa, some of the couples are also featured on 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days, which showcases the struggle of the application process.
We first met Michael Ilesanmi and Angela Deem on Before the 90 Days when Deem went to Nigeria to visit Ilesanmi in his homeland. The two went through a number of trials, including Ilesanmi’s constant lying and rumors of cheating. Now, on this season of 90 Day Fiance, the couple was finally ready for Ilesanmi to come over to the U.S. Unfortunately, his visa got denied.
Michael and Angela’s relationship
Deem and Ilesanmi met online. They eventually decided that the relationship was something that they wanted to pursue in real life so Deem headed to Nigeria. Deem’s first visit was very rocky as she didn’t understand the cultural norms in Nigeria, nor did she like how much Ilesanmi liked to go out and hang out with his friends. The two barely made it through that first trip as a couple. Deem later returned to Nigeria to give her and Ilesanmi’s relationship another shot, but tha trip didn’t go any more smoothly. Deem caught Ilesanmi in a number of lies but still forgave him and eventually applied for a K-1 visa.
Why did Ilesanmi’s visa get denied?
A lot of factors go into approving or denying a visa. When the government is deciding whether or not to grant this type of document, the criminal records of both parties are reviewed. As we know, Deem had a DUI last year, but that alone should not have stopped Ilesanmi’s visa from being approved.
But, according to Soap Dirt, that was Deem’s second DUI, which might not have looked good to the government.
In addition to checking your criminal background, the applicant must prove that they can support the person coming over on the visa. Because of the number of people living in Deem’s home, her daugther, her grandchildren, Deem’s mother, and Scottie Deem’s children, Deem would need to make between $50,000 and $60,000 to meet the K-1 visa requirement. Deem raking in that kind of cash doesn’t seem very plausible.
In addition to those reasons, Ilesanmi being from Nigeria doesn’t help the situation at all. A visa officer told the outlet that the government is on “high alert” when they receive Nigerian applications because the area is known for fraud.
The officer recommended that the two apply for a spousal visa rather than a K-1 visa in order to raise their chances of actually getting Ilesanmi over to the U.S.
So, though Ilesanmi’s visa was denied, all is not lost for the couple. Deem could try to move to Nigeria to be with her beau or they could try and apply for a new visa to bring him to the states.
