’90 Day Fiancé’: Kalani Confronts Asuelu’s Mom and Sister Over Their Demands for Money and Things Nearly Get Physical
Kalani Faagata has had it with Asuelu Pulaa’s family. On the latest episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? she went to meet up with Asuelu’s mom and sister to hash out a financial disagreement that has played out in several recent episodes. Almost immediately, the meeting escalated to a screaming match before Asuelu’s sister tried to swing on the 90 Day Fiancé star. Let’s discuss the drama more below.
The tension between Kalani Faagata and Asuelu Pulaa’s family is because of money
While things have long been icy between Kalani and members of Asuelu’s family, the tension has peaked in recent episodes after her husband’s mom and his sister Tammy demanded a lump sum of money from her and Asuelu — $1000 to be exact.
Kalani and Asuelu offered up $100 but could not afford to give more due to their own financial obligations, including the two kids they have to support.
His family was unmoved and reminded Asuelu that it is customary in Samoan culture for a young adult to take care of their parents. They told him that, regardless of his circumstances, he needed to find some way to honor the request, even if that means asking Kalani’s family for even more help or adding on more hours to his work schedule.
When negotiations between the couple and Asuelu’s family stalled, Asuelu went to talk to his family on his own. They continued to go back-and-forth before Tammy began to bad-mouth Kalani, suggesting she had been controlling Asuelu and downplaying the seriousness of her relationship with the Samoa native. Realizing the conversation was going nowhere, Asuelu left the room without any resolution between him and his family.
Kalani then tried to talk to Asuelu’s family on her own
On the Aug. 23 episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? Kalani went to meet with Tammy and Asuelu’s mom in hopes of getting them to understand her stance.
“I’m here to tell you guys, I just don’t know why you all feel entitled to me and my family’s money,” she began. “And however you feel, feel that way. But at the end of the day, it is going to be what I say.”
Tammy and Asuelu’s mom repeated their comments about Samoan culture. When Kalani tried to explain their financial situation once more, the other two once again suggested that Kalani ask her family to pitch in so Asuelu could have more money for them.
Tammy also recommended that Kalani work more and called her “lazy.” She then shifted her focus to their relationship and suggested Kalani intentionally got pregnant to take Asuelu away from them.
Asuelu’s mom then chimed in with a bombshell. “I’m sorry, Kalani, I don’t care about the kids. I want to take back my son to Samoa to do his duty as before,” she said, shocking Kalani.
Fed up with the conversation, Kalani said, “I’m done. I don’t want anything to do with it.” As she began to walk away, Tammy lunged at her while Asuelu’s mom tried to hold her back. “Wait till I see you, I’m going to beat you up!” Tammy shouted.
“If [Tammy] would have touched my f*cking body, I would have dropped her. Period,” Kalani told Asuelu in a later sit-down.
