Asuelu Pulaa and Kalani Faagata have navigated major marital issues throughout the fifth season of TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After.

From Kalani’s confrontation with her in-laws over her refusal to send substantial amounts of money back to Asuelu’s home country of Samoa to Asuelu’s flaring temper and tendency to run off during arguments, the parents of two have spent the better part of the season at each other’s throats. Kalani even told 90 Day Fiancé producers that she wasn’t sure she wanted to stay married at all.

Still, several productive sessions of couples therapy—and a relatively calm reunion with Asuelu’s mom and sisters—seemed to mark a possible shift for the better in Asuelu and Kalani’s marriage.

But in a new preview clip of an upcoming episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After, 32-year-old Kalani revealed that her relationship with 24-year-old Asuelu fell apart yet again after the COVID-19 pandemic hit their home state of Utah. The couple effectively separated for the time being, leaving Kalani at home with their two sons, Oliver and Kennedy.

Kalani accused Asuelu of endangering their kids by disobeying social distancing guidelines

In a 90 Day Fiancé preview, TLC noted that three months had passed during the filming process for 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After. During those three months, COVID-19 had reached Utah, placing additional strain on Kalani and Asuelu’s marriage—and even pushing the latter out of the household altogether.

In the sneak peek, Kalani admitted that she and her husband had been “fighting a lot” in quarantine together. But she was most frustrated by Asuelu’s nonchalance about the coronavirus pandemic. He hadn’t slowed down when it came to partying and socializing whatsoever, which concerned Kalani.

“It’s almost like he’s trying to purposely expose himself to get coronavirus,” Kalani said incredulously. “He keeps going out with his friends, and then he’ll lie about where he is.”

Asuelu headed back to his mom’s for the time being

As for Kalani, she was more than over Asuelu’s latest antics. She didn’t want to expose her two young children to COVID-19, so she felt she had to choose to separate herself from her husband instead.

This wasn’t the first time Kalani and Asuelu argued over health issues, either.

Earlier on the fifth season of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After, the couple argued bitterly over Kalani’s decision not to take Oliver and Kennedy to Samoa during a dangerous measles outbreak. Asuelu wasn’t too worried about the potential repercussions, which concerned his wife quite a bit.

Now, Kalani said, she was completely over Asuelu’s casual attitude towards the outbreak.

“I’m done with it,” Kalani declared. “I need to protect my kids. I can’t keep letting him do whatever the hell he wants. I’m not gonna let him just get back in the house with the babies.”

Finally, she kicked Asuelu out after a major argument.

“We got into a big fight last night, and I told him that I think it would be best if he would just go to his mom’s,” Kalani said sadly.

The ’90 Day Fiancé’ star admitted she didn’t know when or if she wanted her husband to return

Asuelu had stormed out of the house many times in the past, but it didn’t look like this time would be a one-off tiff. Kalani revealed that she’d booked Asuelu a one-way ticket to his mom’s. She didn’t specify his exact destination, but it’s possible that he returned to Samoa temporarily, although Asuelu’s mom also lives part of each year in the state of Washington.

The 90 Day Fiancé star looked defeated as she admitted that she didn’t know if their marriage would ever get back on track.

“I don’t know when he’s coming back, because this is not working,” Kalani confessed.

The mom of two explained that it wasn’t just this one issue that had made her need a break from her husband. Kalani shared that they’d already been struggling quite a bit in their marriage before the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, but the pandemic threw those issues into high relief. Asuelu’s carelessness and dishonesty seemed to be the final straw for his wife.

Fans accused Asuelu of being highly immature

90 Day Fiancé fans immediately took to the YouTube comments of the sneak peek to accuse Asuelu of being immature, particularly when it came to failing to protect his kids and wife amid the COVID-19 crisis. Most viewers appeared to support Kalani’s decision, arguing that it was the responsible choice if her husband refused to take accountability.

“It took her until now to realize that he’s a man child,” one fan mused in the comments.

Another critic argued that Kalani seemed to have done all she could to keep the marriage alive.

“She gave him so many chances,” they wrote. “His upbringing couldn’t help him be a man.”

Another commenter added their support for Kalani, writing, “I don’t blame her. Having to take care of three babies at the same time is too much for any woman.”

Many fans have criticized both Asuelu and Kalani for the breakdown in their marriage. However, most viewers seemed to take Kalani’s side on this particular issue—especially because it involved his children’s health and well-being, which, they argued, should be his main priority.
