’90 Day Fiancé’: Leida Margaretha Thinks Ashley Smith Is Lying About Having Lupus
In January 2019, 90 Day Fiancé star Ashley Smith was found unresponsive in her home. She was rushed to the hospital for kidney failure, a common complication of lupus, an inflammatory disease caused when the immune system attacks its own tissues.
Shortly after, Ashley started a GoFundMe to help her with hospital bills and other expenses since she wouldn’t be able to work while hospitalized. The goal was set to $10,000.
’90 Day Fiancé’ fans accused Ashley Smith of fraud
Some fans believed Ashley planned on using the GoFundMe money for more than just hospital bills and necessary expenses. As a result, she ended up returning all the money donated to silence “the haters.”
“For anyone continuously talking about Go Fund Me… Was I sick? Yes. Did Go Fund Me review my hospitalization to eliminate fraud? Yes. Did my diagnosis improve from the beginning to the end of my hospitalization? Yes. However the $3k is not worth the further speculation that I scammed you on this too,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.
Ashley continued: “I appreciate the support but I want to eliminate all other reasons for you haters to keep going off. The money was never withdrawn from the GFM account – I initiated a return last week and it’s on its way to you. If you’re still complaining then you obviously didn’t donate anyway. Please contact GFM directly if your return hasn’t arrived.”
Leida Margaretha said in an interview that she thinks Ashely is lying about having lupus
It’s been over a year since Ashley deleted her GoFundMe page, but one of her former castmates still isn’t buying it. Leida Margaretha and Eric Rosenbrook were interviewed by The Domenick Nati Show on July 4 where they were asked their current thoughts on Ashley.
“She lies many times, you know, about the GoFundMe thing. She doesn’t have lupus,” said Leida.
Eric also believes Ashley is being less than truthful.
“It became apparent that Ashley was kind of taking advantage of some of us. So we’re seeing things come out in different conversations and stories from them that don’t match up with other things they say and do. There’s just a whole bunch of stuff going on in-between, behind-the-scenes and stuff like that that we get word of but other people [don’t],” he said.
“So you’re saying Ashley faked lupus for money?” asked Nati.
“From what I’m saying, I don’t think that she has it. I heard her mom has it. But I don’t know, I don’t want to be nosy,” said Leida.
“I’m not exactly sure on it either. We’re not claiming that she doesn’t have it. It’s just that we’re going off of what we’ve got so far,” said Eric.
