’90 Day Fiancé’: Michael Jessen’s Ex-Wife Officiated His Wedding, Fans Seem Split
90 Day Fiancé couple Michael Jessen and Juliana Custodio have received mixed reactions from fans. From the get-go, Jessen made it clear that he’s aware of the age gap between himself and Custodio, but that’s they truly love each other. However, some fans weren’t willing to accept his comments at face value.
Since then, as their story has evolved, some fans have come to appreciate Jessen and Custodio’s relationship with Jessen’s ex-wife, Sarah Jessen. They praise the divorced couple’s ability to co-parent and behave maturely towards each other. However, other fans found it odd, and were especially confused by Sarah officiating Michael Jessen and Juliana Custodio’s wedding.
Sarah Jessen says TLC edited ‘90 Day Fiancé’ poorly
At first, fans weren’t sure what to make of Michael Jessen and Sarah Jessen’s relationship on 90 Day Fiancé. Early on, it seemed as if there was tension in the air between Sarah and Juliana Custodio, especially when it came to discussing parenting.
During one episode, Sarah tells Juliana Custodio and Michael Jessen, “The kids have great parents. Michael is a great father and I’m a great mom. And what I want from you is to not parent, at all.”
However, Sarah Jessen later revealed via Facebook that this was the result of TLC’s editing choices. She wrote, “[T]he ‘I don’t want you to parent’ comment was cut mid-sentence. What they edited out was the reason I have her which was ‘you’re adjusting to a new home, a new country and have a new relationship. I don’t want you to feel the added stress of feeling the responsibility of trying to parent Max and Cece.’”
Jessen then added, “Juliana and I are EXTREMELY close and I hope the producers will end up showing how our relationship has evolved and you will stay tuned with an open mind and heart.”
Michael Jessen and Juliana Custodio marry
InTouch Weekly had previously obtained a marriage license showing that Michael Jessen and Juliana Custodio married on October 12, 2019 — and now, the marriage has been officially aired on 90 Day Fiancé.
The wedding ceremony was held at Michael Jessen’s house in Greenwich, Connecticut. Michael Jessen and Juliana Custodio were both dressed to the nines in a tuxedo and beautiful white dress respectively. Even Max and CeCe were dressed up, though serious attire can’t stifle their sense of humor.
Fans react to Sarah Jessen officiating
Sarah Jessen officiated the wedding for Michael Jessen and Juliana Custodio, and fans seem split on how to feel about it. While some fans think she was supportive and that the Jessens are a great example of post-divorce success, others felt a little confused by the scenario.
One 90 Day Fiancé fan wrote on Reddit, “You can’t fake smiles like they all had. They were all genuinely happy. We have seen awkward weddings on this show so many times. It was nice to see one like this.”
Another fan added, “I agree. It bothers me that people think it’s weird, these are post-divorce goals. I wasn’t in the same room with both of my parents until I was in my 40s. Divorce is tough on kids.”
However, not all fans felt the same way. One user thought Sarah’s speech was focused on herself. They wrote, “I thought it was inappropriate that she was talking about herself during the ceremony. The new family dynamic would’ve been a good topic for a speech during the reception.”
“How many times so we have to watch her look at the camera and tell us she could be bitter about Michael getting a younger new version of her but she is not,” wrote another Reddit user.
One user rebutted, “I highly disagree with this. Sarah seems BEYOND supportive, welcoming, and at peace with the situation. I think you want her to be jealous, but honestly, but she doesn’t read that at all. I mean, christ, look at how well-developed her kids are! They are getting it from somewhere. I have a feeling that Sarah has done a TON of emotional work on herself, she comes across extremely centered and accepting. I actually really admire her.”
While some fans reacted negatively, the majority of reactions seemed to be positive, with viewers thinking Sarah Jessen and Michael Jessen were great examples of successful co-parenting and maturity post-divorce.
