90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way has been spending quite some time focusing on Corey and Evelin’s buildup to marriage. The latest drama includes Corey Rathgeber spending time with a Peruvian woman, Jenny, after Evelin Villegas tried to scare him straight by taking a break.
Now, with Corey having told Evelin about Jenny, but still hiding something, the two have set out to plan for their wedding. But given documents reported on by Soap Dirt in 2019, some fans are left wondering what the point is.
Corey was arrested for a DUI in November of 2019, and his police report made the rounds. At the same time, Evelin Villegas’ marriage status in Ecuador was revealed by a government document.
Evelin Villegas’ name was listed alongside a “spouse” section, which includes Corey Rathgeber’s name. Her marital status is delineated as “married.” If that’s the case, then Corey and Evelin have been married for some time, and the entire storyline TLC is putting on is just for show — which may not be a major surprise to some 90 Day Fiancé fans.
Some ‘90 Day Fiancé’ fans aren’t too interested
Some 90 Day Fiancé fans are feeling frustrated with Corey and Evelin. There wasn’t a big push by fans to have the couple back on the show. In fact, they aren’t one of the show’s most well-loved couples. If anything, they often seem to frustrate fans — though that could be part of the appeal.
“She’s honestly the reason I finally canceled this recording on the DVR. a third f—— season? That’s just torture at this point,” wrote one Redditor.
“They are perfect for each other and as long as they stay together, they won’t be ruining anyone else’s life,” added another user.
Given the revelation that Evelin Villegas and Corey Rathgeber are already married in Ecuador, some fans are feeling that their story on the show is pointless.
“This is stupid. THEY ALREADY ARE MARRIED. I’m out,” wrote a commenter on a separate thread.
“Well considering it’s all an act since they were married prior to even being on the show, I’d say they’re both somewhat smart to trick TLC long enough to make themselves so interesting with that fake nonsense that they weren’t booted from the show,” suggested another Redditor.
Evelin Villegas hires an expensive wedding planner
Despite their marriage status, 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way is continuing with Corey and Evelin’s storyline, introducing the wedding planner that Evelin Villegas has taken on to help put their ceremony together.
Evelin doesn’t want to spare any expense and subsequently has hired someone whose lowest price is $26,000, going as high as $50,000 for the more luxurious options. Corey Rathgeber was shocked when he heard the figures.
“My brother had a wedding in the United States. It cost him $5,000 okay? Don’t tell me that we’re gonna spend $50,000 to $60,000 on a wedding in a third-world country. … I’m kind of freaking out right now because I just don’t know how I’m gonna pay for this wedding,” Corey told producers.
