’90 Day Fiancé’: Paul Staehle Claims He Got an STD From Karine Martins and Urges Followers to Contact the Sheriff’s Department; Karine Responds

90 Day Fiancé stars Paul Staehle and Karine Martins Staehle—who are currently appearing on the fifth season of TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After—have always had a tumultuous relationship. Their relationship only seemed to go further downhill after they moved from Karine’s home country of Brazil to Paul’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.

After going through multiple miscarriages and more than one breakup, 37-year-old Paul and 23-year-old Karine ultimately married in 2017 and had a son, Pierre. While they have announced a potential divorce several times since then, 90 Day Fiancé fans have never seen the couple go through as many ups and downs as they have in recent days. Many viewers are deeply concerned for the estranged couple.

Paul and Karine have struggled in their marriage recently

Recently, Paul took to Instagram to share videos of local police responding to calls at their home about incidents of alleged domestic violence. (Neither Paul nor Karine was arrested.) Later, he went live again to claim that his wife had disappeared and was missing in action.

The 90 Day Fiancé star also claimed that the couple had an open CPS case, that Karine had been unfaithful to him, and that he was being treated for a sexually transmitted disease (STD).

On Aug. 3, Karine released a public statement on Instagram refuting her estranged husband’s claims. She also filed for a protective order that prevents Paul from coming within 500 feet of her or their young son.

Paul claimed that Karine ‘took off’ with their son in another man’s car

After his initial series of videos and posts about police responding to their home in the U.S., Paul filmed himself in what looked like a hospital bed on Instagram. Clad in a hospital gown and mask, Paul said he was receiving medical treatment for a serious condition.

“Karine took off with Pierre,” the 90 Day Fiancé star claimed at the time.

Paul alleged that neighbors had called him to report that his wife was “not in the right state of mind” and had turned off her phone and “hopped in some dude’s car,” driving away with the couple’s son.

The 90 Day Fiancé star claimed he had contacted Karine’s mom, who reportedly also could not get in touch with her.

“Karine’s mom is very worried for her safety,” he said in the video.

What’s more, Paul claimed that he had gotten an STD, heavily implying that he had contracted it from his wife.

“Tested positive for an STD, wtf…receiving treatment,” he wrote in a caption on his Instagram stories. “I have never cheated on my wife.”

The 90 Day Fiancé star filmed yet another video from his hospital bed, in which he repeated that he was receiving medical treatment for what turned out to be an STD. He claimed that he had never been sexually unfaithful to his wife, which would, of course, mean that any alleged STD/STIs were from Karine.

“I just want to let everybody know that I’m gonna be all right. I’m glad it’s nothing serious like cancer,” Paul said of his purported medical issue. “I never cheated on Karine, ever, but apparently I tested positive for an STD, and they gave me treatment for it. Hopefully everything goes well and I can get out of here.”

Paul also claimed that Karine was ‘missing’

Paul also snapped photos of an emergency protective order filed by Karine. Under the terms of the order, he had to stay 500 feet away from his wife and son at all times.

This revelation led many 90 Day Fiancé fans to suspect that there were deeper problems underfoot—especially given Paul’s criminal record, which includes a felony conviction for arson involving his ex-girlfriend.

“Karine filed for a restraining order,” Paul said in a video. “I’m not allowed to be around her or my son.”

In the documents he revealed on Instagram, which were allegedly Karine’s protective order, she made serious accusations against her husband—such as claims about multiple escalating incidents of physical abuse and sexual assault.

Karine also claimed that Paul restricted her freedom in multiple ways—such as holding her green card and other documents from her, not allowing her to work or keep money, and threatening to call the police if she tried to get away from him. Karine also claimed that Paul took to social media to air their dirty laundry and used it to control her by painting her as “crazy.”

Later, Paul took to Instagram again to claim that Karine was “missing” and to ask that anyone who knew her whereabouts to contact the sheriff’s department.

“Hey everyone, this is a little scary. I can’t believe I have to make this message,” he said in a video. “It’s got me really upset right now. The sheriff’s department just came by, and they are looking for Karine. Karine is missing. They don’t know where she’s at.”

Paul urged his followers to contact the police, saying, “If anyone knows where she is at, please contact the sheriff’s department and let them know where Karine is at…Obviously, I don’t know where she’s at because she got a PO, and what she does is her business at this point…I’m very scared for her and for the child, as was the sheriff who was here.”

Karine released a statement refuting her husband’s claims

But, according to Yahoo!, Karine released her own statement on Instagram, claiming that Paul was misleading his followers.

“I want you all to know that me and Pierre are doing well now,” the 90 Day Fiancé star wrote in her statement.

Later, Karine confirmed that she had indeed filed for an emergency protective order, using the help of a translator. The young mom also claimed that she had called the police out of fear for her life.

“As the media showed, I had issues where the police was called because I feared for my life and my son’s life which led me to ask for help,” she wrote, “and ultimately be rescued from an environment that no longer was healthy for none of us involved in the situation.”

The 90 Day Fiancé star appeared to believe that her relationship with Paul was over. “Relationships are hard and sometimes it just can’t be fixed anymore,” she wrote.

Thanking her followers for their support, Karine added that her husband’s claims about her unknown whereabouts were not true.

“I also would like to state that I’m not missing,” she wrote. “The police knows where to find me if they need me.”

Karine urged her fans not to worry, saying she was getting the “best help [she] could ever get” and keeping her son safe as best she could.

Since then, Paul has made even more statements, even suggesting that he was headed to Brazil himself and that Karine was pregnant again. It’s hard to parse the truth in the complicated situation, but fans will certainly continue to follow the evolving story.
