’90 Day Fiancé’: Pedro Tells Chantel He’s ‘Not Proud of Her’
Pedro Jimeno and Chantel Everett argued about their dreams for the future in a new sneak peek for an upcoming episode of their 90 Day Fiancé spinoff, TLC’s The Family Chantel.
Chantel, 25, and Pedro, 28, announced on the season premiere of The Family Chantel that they were thrilled about Chantel’s upcoming graduation from nursing school with her bachelor’s degree. Pedro moved to Atlanta from his home country of the Dominican Republic to marry Chantel, and he’d been working long hours at a nearby warehouse to support her during her studies. Now, he hoped to move on to carry out his own education and career goals after Chantel finished school.
But the October 19 episode of The Family Chantel revealed that those dreams unfortunately wouldn’t come true as quickly as Pedro and Chantel had hoped – because Chantel wouldn’t be graduating on time.
Chantel told Pedro she wouldn’t be graduating with her nursing degree as expected
Fans know that Chantel has been working towards her degree in nursing ever since her first appearance on 90 Day Fiancé. After Pedro moved to the U.S., he worked to support her financially while she focused on school.
But, on the most recent episode of The Family Chantel, Pedro was disappointed to find out that his wife hadn’t completed all the necessary coursework. Chantel had already landed a job interview for a position she wanted, but now that wouldn’t be a possibility until she completed another semester of courses.
Pedro’s face fell as he realized that the plans he’d carefully laid weren’t going to pan out as hoped – or, at least, not according to the timeline he’d set out.
Already in tears, Chantel got even more choked up as she told Pedro she didn’t need to hear how disappointed he was in her. After all, she was already disappointed enough in herself.
“I know you’re not proud of me right now,” Chantel said through her tears.
“I’m not proud of you, yeah,” a visibly stricken Pedro admitted.
“But I do need you to be proud of me no matter what,” Chantel insisted, asking for unconditional support during her tough time.
“No matter what?!” Pedro repeated incredulously.
The couple clashed on the issue of emotional support
Continuing to break down, Chantel got real with her husband about what she needed from him. The 90 Day Fiancé star pointed out that others in her life were willing to stand by her side no matter what.
“My friends, they’re still proud of me,” Chantel cried. “They are supporting me, and they know how much this means. And you, out of anybody, should know how hard this is for me.”
But Pedro pointed out that – given the constant, heavy work schedule he took on just to allow Chantel to pursue her education – he was supporting her much more than her family or friends were at the moment.
“I support you more than your family right now, and you know that,” he insisted.
But, for Chantel, the most important thing she could get from Pedro was not just financial help, but emotional support.
“You’re not giving me what I need,” the 90 Day Fiancé star exclaimed in despair. Pedro didn’t see it that way, arguing that he was doing more than his part already.
Pedro lamented the fact that he wouldn’t be able to ‘start his life’ as soon as he planned
Pedro told 90 Day Fiancé producers that he wasn’t at all happy with Chantel at the moment. He confessed that he felt “disappointed” in her because he’d believed she was going to try her best and ultimately finish school that year.
“I understand that you feel like you can’t start your life,” Chantel told Pedro, acknowledging that things had just become a lot harder for him. Pedro agreed; now, he admitted, he felt trapped in his dead-end warehouse job and unable to move forward with his own plans for a career, education, and greater financial stability.
“It’s my turn to go to school,” Pedro told The Family Chantel producers. “It’s my turn to make my life. It’s my opportunity to have my own degree, too.”
Ultimately, however, Chantel and Pedro reconciled, with Pedro agreeing to support his wife no matter what. Still, it would be an uphill battle for them now, both financially and emotionally.
