‘90 Day Fiancé’ Season 9: What Does Patrick Mendes Do for Work?
A new season of 90 Day Fiancé has begun, and fans are already eager to learn as much as they can about the six new couples. Patrick Mendes, 31, and Thaís, 25, will be highlighted in 90 Day Fiancé Season 9 — here’s what to know about Patrick, including his work and how he met his fiancée.
How did ’90 Day Fiancé’ Season 9 couple Patrick and Thaís meet?
Patrick and Thaís started their whirlwind romance while Patrick was visiting some extended family in Brazil. He searched on a dating app to find a Portuguese tutor, and that’s where he found her. Patrick continued to visit Thaís a few more times before he proposed. Now, Thaís is packing her bags and jetting off to Dallas, Texas, to marry the love of her life.
90 Day Fiancé didn’t show too much of Patrick and Thaís during the premiere on April 17. However, viewers did get to hear all about Patrick’s transformation for Thaís. As seen in a preview, he explained that he got a facial, a haircut, a tan, and even got his back waxed. He also shed a few pounds in the weeks leading up to Thaís’s arrival.
Patrick Mendes works as a professional weightlifter
When Patrick isn’t spending time with Thaís, the 90 Day Fiancé Season 9 star focuses on his work as a weightlifter. He calls himself a “3x weightlifting national champion” on his Instagram account (@buffmendes), where he often posts videos of himself working out.
Back in 2016, Patrick told Lift Big Eat Big all about his Olympic weightlifting career. He said he started right after high school in 2008, fully dedicating himself to becoming the best. He reached “an unofficial junior world record of 207kg/456lbs.”
Unfortunately, in 2011, Patrick began experiencing severe hip pain that turned out to be a torn labrum. He left weightlifting temporarily to work a full-time job and receive health insurance. However, after some time in recovery, he’s back to full-time training.
“I am finally starting my comeback and looking to regain my title as America’s strongest weightlifter, even at a lower body weight,” he said.
’90 Day Fiancé’ teased tension between Patrick, Thaís, and Patrick’s brother
Patrick and Thaís seem ready to start their lives together in America. However, as seen in the 90 Day Fiancé Season 9 trailer, the two might hit a rough patch while living with Patrick’s brother. One scene shows Thaís making a comment about Patrick’s brother drinking a bottle of beer in the morning.
“I live here, too,” his brother responded.
“Living with my brother is gonna be really awkward,” Patrick said behind the scenes.
