’90 Day Fiancé’ Star Deavan Clegg Is ‘Still Trying to Wrap My Head’ Around 3-Year-Old Son’s Leukemia Diagnosis: ‘My Heart Is Broken’
Reality TV stars like those who appear on 90 Day Fiancé often become celebrities in their own right. This means fans get wrapped up in the ups and downs of their lives even after their time on the TLC show is over. That’s the case for Deavan Clegg who previously became the center of a 90 Day Fiancé spinoff series.
Now, Clegg is revealing heartbreaking news about her son’s health. Fans hope she gets some answers as well as a treatment plan that will provide a cure.
Deavan Clegg appeared on Seasons 1 and 2 of ’90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way’
Deavan Clegg’s time on 90 Day Fiancé was unique in that her pregnancy became the center of a budding relationship between her and the father, Jihoon Lee. Lee flew to America to meet Clegg after the pair matched on a dating app.
When Clegg realized she was pregnant just as Lee’s visit was coming to an end, the couple brought their budding romance — and growing family — onto a spinoff of the TLC franchise, 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way.
The pair spent two seasons on the show. Then, they split, and Clegg expressed quite a bit of frustration with TLC and their portrayal of her relationship and parenting. At one point, Clegg claimed TLC fabricated major parts of her story and intentionally misled viewers with inaccurate timelines.
Much of her criticism came amid angry fans voicing frustration at the way she treated Lee. Clegg, for her part, claims Lee is not who he seems and that she worked hard to establish a co-parenting relationship with her soon-to-be ex-husband. She alleges that Lee did not respond.
Deavan Clegg’s son received a leukemia diagnosis
As Clegg and Lee’s marital drama played out amidst fan speculation and headline-grabbing stories, she received seriously devastating news. Clegg took to Instagram to let fans know the three-year-old son she shares with Lee has been diagnosed with “childhood cancer, b-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.”
The post was accompanied by pictures of the little boy, Taeyang, in a hospital with a medical device taped to his chest.
Clegg also wrote that she faced “every parent[‘]s absolute worst nightmare” but that she had to “stay strong for Taeyang, Drascilla and my baby in my tummy.” That last line is a reference to her current pregnancy with her new partner Topher Park. The new pregnancy news follows her announcement of a miscarriage in April 2021.
This is not the first emotional reveal Clegg has made on social media. As Screen Rant reports, she previously shared that her daughter Drascilla was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy. As she shared this most recent diagnosis, Clegg asked fans to donate to help pay for the treatments. She also set up a Go Fund Me for the purpose — currently at just over $20,000.
Deavan Clegg is handling the news about her son amidst a divorce
The news about Taeyang’s leukemia comes just as Clegg and Lee finally cincluded their divorce proceedings. The split was an ugly one. It often left fans critical of Clegg who continues to insist that the story they’re seeing is not the full picture.
As Us Weekly reports, there’s no indication that Lee is involved in his son’s life or knows about the diagnosis. The magazine reports that an insider shared details about the lack of communication between the former couple. The source says Clegg shared, “Lee has not had any contact with her son since late 2020” and has been “unsuccessful” at contacting him about their child’s cancer diagnosis.
Us went on to report, “He has her and her family’s numbers, emails and social media blocked.” Clegg’s publicist added, “She had even tried to reach out to Jihoon’s father but was unsuccessful.”
