‘90 Day Fiancé’: Steven Comparing Himself to Jesus Hit Fans’ Last Nerve
90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way fans couldn’t believe that Steven “with a V” Johnston tried to make an argument for his cheating on Alina by comparing himself to Jesus. Many fans are fed up with Steven’s hypocrisy and are urging Alina to break up with him.
Steven tells Alina he cheated on her
On the Oct. 3rd episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Alina finds out that after Steven went on dates after they were in a relationship — after she specifically told him not to. Alina reveals to her friend, Masha, that he receives many phone calls from these “female friends” while in Turkey. Masha then tells her that Steven fell for the trap they set for him, and he replied to her flirty text message. He didn’t even mention having a girlfriend and then invited Masha to visit him in America.
Alina decides to ask Steven about the extent of his relationships with his “female friends.” She doesn’t trust Steven, but she wants more information regarding the dates with other women. She asks, “Did you kiss any girls that you went on a date with?” He says, “Yeah, I did.” When questioned why, he tells her, “I thought you understood my level of commitment at that point.” Alina tells him, “I had no idea that it means that you can go on dates with other girls and you’re gonna kiss them.”
Steven defends himself by comparing himself to Jesus
That’s when Steven attempts to defend himself. Instead of taking ownership for his cheating, he instead uses religion to deflect his actions. First, he tries to gain browny points with Alina by telling her that he didn’t kiss “most” of his female friends, just some of them. Steven says, “I thought we weren’t exclusive.”
Alina explains that it was clear to her that they were in an exclusive, long-distance relationship and that she didn’t flirt with, date, or kiss any guys. She asks Steven if she was a “backup plan.” When asked what he can do to rectify the situation, Alina tells him to cut off communication with his female friends. He argues, “But even Jesus had friends who were girls, you know?”
’90 Day Fiancé’ fans are tired of Steven’s religious hypocrisy
90 Day Fiancé fans were outraged by Steven’s hypocrisy. From the beginning of the season, Steven has been trying to help Alina be pure for her baptism. He asked not to sleep in the apartment while in Turkey to avoid having sex. He also asked her not to drink wine when they went wine tasting later in the episode. That’s when he revealed to Alina that not only did he kiss his “female friends,” but he had sexual relations with them too.
The fans went off on Steven in the Reddit thread. One fan pointed out his hypocrisy, writing, “Has sex with multiple women outside of marriage while dating another person (or at least claims to… who are these women?) Shames partner for wanting to taste wine.” Another commented on the Jesus remark, writing, “It’s so manipulative. But I loved how it didn’t work with her, and she just flatly said ‘wow.'” Another user wrote, “Didn’t Jesus also drink wine?”
Steven was already becoming one of the most hated cast members of the season. Then when Steven blatantly used his religion to deflect his cheating to manipulate Alina was too much for fans. All over the internet, 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way fans are urging Alina to run fast in the other direction. It will be interesting to see what Alina chooses to do.
