Making her way into broadcast journalism

According to Forbes, “To say Shaun Robinson is an accomplished trailblazer is an understatement.” She started her career in her hometown of Detroit, where she was hosting a talk show on a local TV station. After she rejected the advances of the owner of the station, she was demoted, so she moved on to another TV anchor and reporting job in Flint, Michigan. When that didn’t work out, she found another job, this time in Milwaukee as a medical reporter.

Her determination kept her in the game, despite setbacks, and she was in Milwaukee for almost four years. After working in a few more positions, she auditioned for a position with Access Hollywood. She got the job, and she went on to become one of the longest-running entertainment show anchors with them, working from 1999 to 2015. Her days of struggling to be noticed were behind her. But she wasn’t done.

Career advances, awards, and nonprofit work

Shaun Robinson has been a contributing reporter on a number of news shows, including NBC Nightly News, CNN, MSNBC, and more. She’s also covered many entertainment events, winning an Emmy for her coverage of A Grand Night in Harlem. She’s been awarded many other awards, including a Gracie Award, the Outstanding Coverage of Race & Ethics Award, and recognition of her work from both the Associated Press and American Women in Radio and Television.

She’s also worked as an actor, appearing in Bruce Almighty, Law & Order, Dr. Doolittle 2, Monk, Everybody Hates Chris, Charmed, and more. To encourage young women, she’s established a nonprofit called The SHAUN Foundation, which stands for their support of charities that work in Stem, Health, Arts, Unity, and Neighborhoods. Another effort to support girls was the book she wrote, Exactly As I Am: Celebrated Women Share Candid Advice with Today’s Girls on What it Takes to Believe in Yourself.
