’90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way’ Fans Feel ‘Horrible’ for Sumit’s Ex-Wife and Blame Jenny for ‘Lying’

Jenny Slatten and her boyfriend Sumit are trying to get his conservative Indian family to accept their relationship on this season of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way. But after hearing Sumit’s parents’ side of the story, some fans feel bad for his ex-wife, and others are blaming Jenny for “lying.”

Sumit’s parents reveal that Jenny stayed with them in India on ’90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way’

For over a year, fans have been hearing Sumit describe how his mom and dad disapprove of his relationship with Jenny. And he’s even claimed that they pressured him into getting an arranged marriage when he didn’t want to. 

But in a sneak peek for the upcoming episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Sumit’s parents finally reveal their side of the story. They note that they met Jenny back in 2013 when she first came to visit Sumit. And they even let her stay with them for four months. 

“She told us she was his Facebook friend and she wants to visit India,” Sumit’s father tells producers. “She wanted to live with us, I said, ‘Okay.’ For two, three days, or one week.”

Sumit’s mother then reveals that Jenny lived with them for four months. “I treated her well,” she says. “I showed her a lot of love.”

“Jenny and my wife, they were talking to each other,” Sumit’s dad adds. “They were spending very good times with each other.”

But his parents didn’t know about their relationship 

When Jenny came to live with Sumit’s parents in 2013, she did not tell them that she was involved with Sumit. Sumit may have asked Jenny to keep it a secret, knowing his parents would disapprove. But eventually, Sumit’s dad figured it out.

“I saw him, that he was talking to her a lot in the nighttime,” he says. “We were sleeping and he was with Jenny. I realize they are having some relationship, more than friends.”

Sumit’s parents have been candid about their disapproval of his romance with Jenny, citing her age as the reason. “I will never accept Jenny,” Sumit’s mother tells her son in a 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way preview. “Your relationship is downright odd,” his dad adds.

A few years ago, while Jenny was in the U.S., Sumit married an Indian girl chosen by his parents. As seen on the show, he didn’t tell Jenny about the wedding, and it was only when his family and in-laws showed up at her apartment in India that she learned about his wife. He promised Jenny he’d get a divorce, noting it is a lengthy and expensive process. 

Some ’90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way’ fans feel bad for Sumit’s ex-wife

After hearing Sumit’s parents’ version of the story, some 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way fans feel bad for them and his ex-wife. Some are also calling Jenny out for lying to his parents while living with them in India.

“Every time I see Jenny and/or Sumit on screen lamenting about ‘haters’ or no one accepting their love, I can’t help but think about Sumit’s ex-wife,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “She was married to someone who was never fully dedicated to the relationship and always had 1 foot out. Sure, he did Jenny dirty by lying about being married, but Jenny knew and chose to go back; the ex-wife had no clue.”

“Sumit’s family was nice and welcoming to Jenny at first— then she overstayed her visit with them for months!” another Redditor wrote. “Then Sumit’s parents find Jenny and him are romantically together and sleeping together in their own home. Jenny is older than Summit’s own mother so they are understandably upset about that, but they are also upset Jenny/Sumit lied to them and betrayed their trust as a guest in their house.”

Some fans are questioning what Jenny knew about Sumit’s marriage, and whether he was truly forced into it. Hopefully, as his parents reveal more details on the show, fans will get a clearer picture of what actually went down.
